sweatpantsjoe Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I'd actually cut Brohm. He's not developing into ANYTHING, and Fitzpatrick is a career backup, which is fine with me, having a career backup as the backup quarterback and all.

I could see more turnover here than I indicated for sure. Where do we make changes? I don't see 5 RB's making it or 4 TE"s for that matter. I figure there will be at least 8 LB's and possibly 9 DB's being carried. At this point, I don't know who Chan might keep or cut but looking at your numbers per position, I think you are close with the exceptions that I noted.
Wizard Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Is Jairus Byrd officially out all year? My only changes to your 53 Man Roster WR...I see the Bills keeping 6 WR's, but I think Roosevelt get a practice squad invite. I think Hardy is given this year to prove himself under Gailey. TE...Boy this is a week position, but I see Stupar, Nelson, and Foschi. Schouman is hurt too often and is too light (220+) is too small for a TE in Gailey's system. LB...I think they keep Mitchell for his general versatility and the fact that you can't have too many LB's in a 3-4. He takes the open roster spot by having only three tight ends. DB...I see the Bills keeping Lankster. He has a nose for the ball and plays bigger than his size. Also, he would contribute on special teams. The Bills would then have: QB (3) RB (5) WR (6) TE (3) OL (9) DL (7) LB (8) DB (9) Special Teams (3) 53 Total: Practice Squad Invites: 1. Chad Simpson (RB) 2. Naaman Roosevelt (WR) 3. Antonio Coleman (LB) 4. Danney Batten (LB...Injured Reserve?)/Marcus Easley (WR...Injured Reserve?) 5. Lonnie Harvey (DT) 6. Cary Harris (DB) 7....Some offensive lineman currently on roster or cut from other squad. If the Bills get a veteran player, then I think OL (Howard) takes this practice squad spot.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I'd keep Mitchell and cut Kelsey. Agreed don't see 4 TE on the roster. I also would give Hardy one more year. He really hardly played last year due ot injury and again preseason. Maybe that's his problem, he can't stay healthy enough to get gain experience, but would give it one more shot. I think Brown is on PS and Fitz may also stay. Teams seem to like extra LB's as good special teams roles for them too.
Coach Tuesday Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Good work. They may cut Kelsay and keep Coleman. IMO he is the one guy who could gt snatched up if they try to PS him.

I could see more turnover here than I indicated for sure. Where do we make changes? Typically, NFL teams will carry 25 players on offense, 25 on defense and the 2 kickers + 1 ST Ace (Whether it is long snapping or ST Tackler). You have 27 players on offense and 23 on defense giving an imbalance. This is a 3-4 defense and they cannot have equal # of DL and LBs. The # of LBs has to be more than the DL. If you take away one player on offense and push it down to the DB list, then the balance will be restored. Mitchell is not going to be cut. McCargo will be cut ahead of Mitchell unless it will be a salary related move. Roosvelt goes to PS and Hardy will be back. Brohm is not ready to compete with Fitz and Edwards. The coaching staff can only bring up one QB. They have to chose between Brohm and Brown. Either Fitz remains as the backup or they bring another Veteran backup with a better arm.

Also, tight end is such a mess now ... I agree with Foschi, Stupar, and Nelson but think we will be watching the waiver wire because of Shouman's history of being hurt. Unless Hardy shows something these next two weeks I don't see him as a surprise cut and the IR status of Easley has given Naaman the break he needed to make the line-up (plus his ST work).

But you made one glaring oversite. And that is at WR. David Nelson is better than Jones or Roosevelt. He will be a top 4 receiver for us if he stays healthy. Don't see why a lot of you like Roosevelt. He looks fragile, and nothing special as a punt returner. I would keep Jones as the sixth receiver over Roosevelt. (has a bigger body) But D. Nelson is a player. BTW, Schouman is garbage. NEVER seen anyone get hurt as much as this guy. Has no business playing in the NFL. What does everybody think? Don't know what all the fuss about him is. He looks frail, and his punt returning skills look average to me. I would go with Donald Jones as the sixth receiver if we keep that many. See no reason to keep Schouman. He is not an NFL caliber player. NEVER seen anyone get hurt as much as him. Would he even get a look by a good team? Not a chance. See ya Derek.

I think that they'll raid the waiver wire for some o-line help as well following final cuts, so beyond the starting five, none of that crew is safe. You have 9 DB's, not 8. Which I agree with- all 9 of those guys will make the team for sure. Anyone who thinks they're not keeping 4 TE's is clearly not following the offseason. I know you're trying to think outside the box and there will undoubtedly be at least one surprise cut, but it's not gonna be Kawika Mitchell. Nelson will make it before Roosevelt does. I still see them keeping only 5 WR's to make room for the extra RB, so I'm guessing Jones and Roosevelt go to the PS. Kyle Calloway will make the team one way or another. I think at this point it would be an upset for McCargo to make the team. I agree though- I feel like this year more than ever, there is very little room for surprise cuts. There are about 48 shoe-ins at this point. What about David Nelson at WR? He looks to be a possible stud in the making. I would keep him over Roosevelt. Don't know what all the fuss about him is. He looks frail, and his punt returning skills look average to me. I would go with Donald Jones as the sixth receiver if we keep that many. See no reason to keep Schouman. Did you not watch the first two games last season before he got hurt? Yes, he got hurt against the Colts, but did you see the play? Anyone would've gotten hurt on that one. It's a rough sport. Give him one more chance, he's only gonna miss a game or two.

Gailey may not want to cut ties with him just yet. But who knows? OBS: agree RBS: agree WRS: those two changes TES: if these four guys don't worry opposing d-coord... OL: this is one of those areas where a team might only keep 8 DL: and keep 6 here because of new 3-4, guys like Kelsay bring added value if we choose to play the nickel package a lot LBS: agree, but Coleman has to make the team somewhere I think DBS: sounds good

Captain Caveman Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Is Jairus Byrd officially out all year? Gailey said he hoped to have him back by the season opener. So no.
Kelly the Dog Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I'm pretty sure that Shawn Nelson doesn't count on the active roster until week five when he is eligible to play, and then the Bills would have to waive one player to make room for him on the roster. I am starting to think we go into the season with only two healthy TEs, and risk it for four games, using an OT in there as a blocker if we need one, and McIntyre as well if there is an injury, otherwise Stupar and Foschi can handle all duties since we won't always be using a TE anyway. If one gets hurt in the first four games, I guess we'd have to sign someone, but that is what I would do, and that is what I think they may do unless Schouman is ready to play by opening day. I actually think Schouman will be cut. Just having two TE for four weeks, will allow us to keep either four backs (which means Joique) and/or six WR which means David Nelson, Chad Jackson and Hardy all make it. As to the OP's original list, no way we keep only 7 LBs on a 3-4 team. It's at least 8 and likely 9 because of special teams. With Torbor and Mitchell able to play both inside and out, plus using Bryan Scott as the nickel and dime LB along with Poz (which they have been doing in pre-season a bit and the best idea IMO), we can get away with 8, depending on how much they like a guy like Donovan Woods because we're so young and/or inexperienced there. We're going to have to cut a couple pretty good players in the secondary. I think Lankster and Cary Harris are gone.

I could see more turnover here than I indicated for sure. Where do we make changes? My opinions... Fitz will be on the team. They will pass Brown through to PS. Yes, he will make it through waivers. He hasn't shown much and too many other young higher drafted QBs are going to get cut or waived. Gailey will want all three of the veteran QBs on the roster from Day One. They all have played equally so far this preseason. Mitchell is not going to get cut. They will keep him over Moats or Ellis. Moats may get sent to PS. Ellis probably gets cut outright. They need three ILBs = Poz, Davis and Mitchell. Hardy may get cut, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay and Roosevelt or Jones sent to PS. They'll make it through waivers, lots of WRs out there. D. Nelson is going to make it over Jones / Roosevelt too. Coleman is going to make the team. Again it may come at the sacrifice of Ellis or Moats. Chambers may get cut in favor of a waiver wire OL pickup, as you suggest. EDITED because I forgot about David Nelson. PromoTheRobot Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) WR David Nelson is a lock to make the team. The battle for #6 WR is between Jones, Hardy and Roosevelt. I'm picking Hardy to be cut, Jones to make the squad of 53 and Roosevelt to PS. PTR Edited August 27, 2010 by PromoTheRobot
