Rob's House
http://news.yahoo.co.../08599201368300 This is rich. It's a puff piece about the stimulus that basically says we were lied to (at least for the most part), but hey, if you believe in liberal/socialist economic theory then everything's sunshine and rainbows. In other words, they lied to us for our own good. note: Most non-partisan liberal economists agree with this assessment. (****! I accidentally posted this in TSW first)

Great piece, and it shows why the GOP hates it so much. Obama is doing too many good things to be tolerated by the oil and coal barons. This stimulous has the makings of a transformational affect. This is one thing I love about team Obama so much, they believe in technology, reasearch and that things can get done. We have elected a technocrat, much like Alexander Hamilton, and I love it! Yeah....a "technocrat" whose Administration is putting limits on energy usage, commerical fishing and oil drilling with no technological basis in reality whatsoever. I'm not a black or white sort of dude, some things make sense (if this is the route you want to go) and others don't. I do believe that there should be money in researching clean energy technologies and that there should be money spent on any infrastructure projects that WE NEED. The risk is that there really isn't too much demand for clean energy technologies at CURRENT PRICES. So there is a risk that the return on the money dealt out will be negative. So I would rather there be more money spent on proven cost-effective technologies and RESEARCH.

You are basically saying do nothing. *This next statement will be met with indignation* I think you throw money around around knowing that 90% of it will be of little value, but that the 10% will spawn an energy revolution, or at least pay for everything else. Was it "proven" that Columbus could cross the ocean blue? No, did the queen spend the money anyway? Yes.

Was it "proven" that Columbus could cross the ocean blue? No, did the queen spend the money anyway? Yes. You did not read or understand what I said correctly. What I said was I do believe that there should be money in researching clean energy technologies and that there should be money spent on any infrastructure projects that WE NEED. The risk is that there really isn't too much demand for clean energy technologies at CURRENT PRICES. So there is a risk that the return on the money dealt out will be negative. So I would rather there be more money spent on proven cost-effective technologies and RESEARCH. So, if you read what I said appropriately you would of noticed that I stated that we SHOULD spend on researching clean energy technology and infrastructure projects. And there is a such thing as "cost-effective technologies" that is easily provable. If you spend more on the Research side, then actually producing things that aren't cost effective, it saves a lot of money and improves efficiency. And your comment regarding appeasing the "oil and coal barons" is way off base.... You couldn't be more wrong. These are resources that we have and that is the way our infrastructure is built. We will eventually move away from fossil fuels once more money is spent on RESEARCHING ways to efficiently promote and create COST-EFFECTIVE clean energy technologies. Even at TODAY'S prices, fossil fuels remain the BEST, most efficent (in cost and discovery/implementation) energy sources out there. Stop with the pablum. Rob's House
Or use there excessive lobbying to kill what's in the public interest. This stuff should have been started and well funded 40 years ago Why? I know we like to say there's an oil shortage, but there really isn't, not for a few centuries anyway. And I know we like to pretend gas burning cars is warming the earth, but even if you buy into the theory of man made globabl warming through C02 emissions, the % of that created by cars relative to the total released into the atmosphere annually is minescule. Further, every major car company now offers a hybrid model, not b/c of anything government did, but because of the market. Just because you subscribe to a certain faith does not mean it is ethical to invest the futures of others, especially under false pretenses, into such foolishness.
