Rob's House
http://townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowel...rt_ii/page/full "We the people" are the central concern of the Constitution, as well as its opening words, since it is a Constitution for a self-governing nation. But "we the people" are treated as an obstacle to circumvent by the current administration in Washington. One way of circumventing the people is to rush legislation through Congress so fast that no one knows what is buried in it. Did you know that the so-called health care reform bill contained a provision creating a tax on people who buy and sell gold coins?

Ten bucks says that's a gross mischaracterization of the 1099 provision in the law.
Rob's House
Ten bucks says that's a gross mischaracterization of the 1099 provision in the law. I don't know the specifics of that particular provision. The broader point of government trying to bury legislation holds regardless.
IDBillzFan
I don't know the specifics of that particular provision. The broader point of government trying to bury legislation holds regardless. We don't have time for that now. There's a mosque trying to be built on sacred ground and we all must yell and scream our opinions and use it as a really good reason to flog the president. Please try to stay focused.

It certainly does. They did, after all, bury the 1099 provision. It would be stupid to overstate that, though, when it already makes the point on its own. BB27
Although there is plenty of pork and tax hidden in the crap currently getting rammed through congress, lets be quite frank and clear that this isn't the first time it's been done. Politicians of both parties have been doing this for years.

Politicians of both parties have been doing this for years. This is true, but this time it's a double whammy. First, this was supposed to be the cleanest most trasparent and ethically sound congress in the history of the Union. This bunch of boy scouts was supposed to be a break from the "culture of corruption" that had become the norm in DC. Add to that the new clean and articulate poster boy for hope and change was supposed to be a breath of fresh air and purer than the wind driven snow. Not only are these guys resorting to "politics as usual", they're taking it to a whole new level.

Until they actually start trying to do something, and then have to "protect" us from the "obstructionist" minority party?
