Oh yeah, the Evans fanboys are out in full force making excuse after excuse after excuse. Better this, better that...

Everything better but Evans.

Can SOMEONE please turn down the dumb in here? It's really too much....

It's bad enough the team stinks but when the fans fall madly in love with mediocrity, it's just gone real dumb. Much like the 'give Brohm a chance' fanboys. Boy we loves us some losers don't we??

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....

By the way, how much money does Megatron make compared to Lee?

Why just turn the dumb down when you can turn it completely off? If you leave we will be dumb free.

Randy Moss in MN

You are new to watching the NFL? He had Culpepper who threw for over 4,000 yards and came in second to Manning for MVP? He also had a future HOFer on the other side for a big part of his career in Cris Carter, who has Evans had? Now use the Randy Moss in Oakland example and you will be closer to the truth.

Exactly, like someone else said in this post, when you don't have any help around you and your quarterback play and offense line play are terrible, even the best players in the league can be average at best. You can put Jerry Rice in his prime on this team for the past 5 seasons and he is an average player-at best. What great receivers have had terrible quarterbacks throwing to them-None that I can think of.

Steve Largent. Moss had marginal qb's until Brady. Rice routinely turned 5 yard slants into 6 pts as did Andre Reed, which is less QB dependent. Evans is a fast guy with good hands. That’s it. An over the hill TO out performed him in the same offense, with the same QB, etc.

Based on last years YAC, gotta go with Miles as the better of these two right now.

I like you Cincy but the only way you believe this statement is if you are the biggest racist on the planet. Chrebet would have been similar to Josh Reed in our "offense" during Lee/ Josh's years on the Bills.

You must positively drip with ignorance to write that about me. I defended your words in time past - I now see I was in error.

Largent had Jim Zorn. Zorn is light years better than any QB the Bills have had since Kelly.

The only comparison that makes any sense with Moss are his years in Oakland. That is the only place where the QB situation was anything similar to Buffalo's during Evan's tenure here. Yes, Moss really lit it up in Oakland! In Minny he had Culpepper, who in his youth was a terrific passing QB. Again, far far superior to any we've had in Buffalo since Kelly.

Did I hit a hit a nerve? Because if you read my post correctly, I just don't believe anyone could seriously believe that Chrebet is a better receiver than Evans without some personal reason. In 5 less years, Evans only has 2 less tds and 2,000 less yards. Chrebet would have had a career like Josh Reed on our team. Nothing wrong with that but Evans is a much, much better player than that. I always respect Chrebet but that is jsut an awful statement.

Of all the players to put down on the Bills, I don't know why people try so hard to put down Evans. How can the guy block a pass rush, throw the ball, catch it, all on a mainly run first team in WNY?

ONE LAST TIME: HE IS OFF TO A BETTER START TO HIS CAREER THAN ANY BILLS RECEIVER EVER!!! PLAYING WITH EDWARDS, LOSMAN, & FITZ.

Good point. Evans playing with our pu pu platter of QBs isn't as good as some of the best receivers ever.

And Evans always had a safety over the top. TO was singled up a lot more than you think.

biscuit, and you know I like you buddy, but you did just call Cincy a racist (actually the biggest one on the planet), so yup, you may have hit a nerve and your statement would probably be considered more awful then his was so I would say your way ahead now in the awful statement contest.

Funny how people forget that...thats how bad Trent, JP and Fitz have been...they dont just kill our seasons, they kill the careers of those around them.

Again we agree. It's just another sorry attempt to stir up some anti Lee sentiment as a backhanded defense of Edturds. Saaaaad.

I haven't seen the insider article but it could be boiled down to one simple statement under the head line.

Trent Edwards and the crap QB crew vs Tony Romo

Could have saved a lot of discussion. This is why I am so desperate to get anyone to come in here to compete with Trent. It is so sad how this kid has been sheltered and given the job. Our backups are so bad they wouldn't be on any other team in the league. Needless to say Trent has never been challenged by a QB that has had even the slightest, the most remote chance of being a starter in this league. QB competition? HAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!! We are expected to believe this when Trent has run against straw man candidates with no real chance of winning. We are expected to believe that he EARNED the job and it wasn't just given to him by Ralphie. What a joke.

Moss has had Culpepper, Randall Cunningham, I believe Rich Gannon (former MVP), Jeff George, all better than anything Lee Evans has ever played with, so Moss is terrible example to prove your point.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good Trent Edwards defense....oh....I mean....Lee Evans bashing. Those slants thrown to Reed and Rice from the likes of Jim Kelly, Joe Montana and Steve Young were thrown by QBs with the balls to make the throw. Why would an offensive coordinator have his WR run that route if he knows his QB can't stick it in there?

If I could put Jerry Rice in his prime on a Bills' team, we'd be talking about how gritty, spot-on, and resourceful those quarterbacks were.

Doubt it highly

This is where we disagree. I think Moss was so good, he made marginal QB's like the above mentioned much better. Culpepper would close his eyes and chuck it up into triple coverage, and Moss came down with the ball over and over again. That is elite.

Culpepper absolutely struggled without Randy. With Chambers in Miami (another over hyped alleged #1 that never materialized, except against buffalo that one game...ugh) Donte failed miserably.

Gannon, MVP, glad you mention him. His career was a total bust going from team to team, then, a west coast offense, Tim brown, Andre Rison, Jerry Rice, and all of the sudden the guy is winning MVP and going to pro bowls...

Jeff George? Really?

My intent is to dismantle the mantra that Lee's has had poor production simply due to poor QB's with the assertion that elite WR's find ways to get the ball in any offense on any team with any QB.

Lee is a deep threat, period. On 50 yard fly pattern he out runs coverage. A one dimensional deep threat which is useless to a team with short game average QB's, a lousy line and no possession receivers. That explains his lack of productivity.

Your post is crap and makes no sense. So unless everyone says that the entire team is terrible and everyone should be cut, they're "fanboys"? I get that people don't are down on the Bills, but why can't we talk about the players without being called dumb? Your sentiment is entirely legitimate, but why do you feel the need to Call people dumb for not towing your line? I got news for you, unless you're employed as a personnel evaluator for one of the 32 NFL teams, your opinion counts just as much as the OP, mine, or a horses ass.

By the way, Megatron averages less per year, but got a $20mm signing bonus (mostly because of his size). He has the frame to box out, but his hands are soft as metal.

Yes.

I like Evans and he's a good player, but he's really a #2 receiver/ deep threat specialist. He just hasn't shown the versatility to run different types of routes, be physical or get significant YAC needed to be a star, IMO. The Bills will definitely have to add another receiver(s) who can do some of these other things to have a balanced passing game.

Don't forget Calvin Johnson in Det either...

Evans stinks.

If we're talking about good Detroit WRs who had bad QBs, we may as well throw Herman Moore into this discussion.

As for Lee Evans, his statistics over the past few years have undoubtedly be harmed by poor QB play, and the offensive line's inability to pass protect. I was very impressed by the fact that his percentage of dropped passes is among the lowest in the league.

This is not to suggest Evans will necessarily become complete, #1 WR along the lines of Eric Moulds or Steve Smith (Panthers). But he clearly does some things very well. If the Bills could have him and Moulds in his prime, they'd have one of the league's best pairs of starting WRs.

First, no he's not.

Second, the front office must agree with you because they pay him as such. Actually, he's one of the higher paid receivers in the league. Congratulations Gabe. If you were GM you too would have driven this franchise into the dirt.

Third, let's assume we live in an alternate universe and I'm wrong and Evans is in fact our best player on offense. Then boy doesn't that just speak volumes about the utter lack of talent on this basement dwelling team?

Smell that?

That's a big heaping pile of s*it coming your way this year. Enjoy!

Who's better than he?

Teams don't get better by creating new holes to fill.

First of all it's about the game not the money. Evans is open and that's with being double teamed constantly. Him and TO had similar numbers last year. Why is it that neither had a big year? They were never open? Whatever, dude. We need the OL to block, a QB to throw the ball and coaches to call the right plays. When Bledsoe was in B-Lo Evans didn't have any trouble getting open did he?

TO is almost a decade older than Evans, had 11 more catches, 200 more yards and essentially only ran one route (streak).

If Evans caught between 75-85 passes a year, he'd be worthy of the reception he gets in Buffalo. Some of that isn't his fault (Carousel at OL, QB and Coaching) but some of it is his fault. Owens came in here, well past his prime, and had a season equivalent to Evans second best ever without trying particularly hard.
