K Gun Special Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Quite a few, actually. These come to mind in my lifetime: Unitas Dawson Kemp Morrall Blanda Young Tittle Plunkett Tarkenton Not common, for sure, but not extremely rare either. Great info. Those players are a little before my time and seems like it hasnt happened since the 80's. I'd say thats a pretty rare occurrence.

Smiley Dear Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 If you were Gailey and you had a young raw talented QB that you felt would be ready around week 4, and you had a young inexperienced O-line that needed some time to learn to play togeather and gel; would you hurry up and rush your young promising QB to start? Or, would you start with one of your other 2 lousy QBs so that they could get their heads beat in while your young guys developed? Chan only has one chance to get this right. If he starts the year off with Brohm or Brown for that mater and they struggle(which they will) going back to Fitz or Trent would be a complete failure, the season would be a debacle and we've wrecked another young QB. He has got to start one of the veterans and hope that the line play improves over the course of the year. If the vet plays well, the season is a success. Most likely however, Trent or Fitz struggles or gets hurt, and Brohm or Brown is more prepared to start. Hopefully they improve over the course of the year and you know if you need to draft a qb or lt in the 1st round next year.

Bravo camels toe and exactly why Brohm fans need to have some patients, Brian Brohm is coming along nicely, but the O-line is a work in progress. Captain Check down/Glove wearing Mary has the quickest release mechanism in the NFL and by most accounts his brains have already been scrambled. So let TE take on the woes and growing pains of the new offense, Brian Brohm's time will probably come soon enough...

Trent doesn't have anywhere near the quickest release in the NFL.

The Senator Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Typical head in the sand Brohm fan! He WAS CUT by GB last September & then AFTER HE CLEARED WAIVERS BY ALL 31 OTHER TEAMS placed on their practice squad. Did it ever occur to you that GB's attempt to match was simply to keep an insurance policy in November with a guy who knew their friggin offense or are you just too dense? Don't go telling other people they don't know what they're talking about when YOU'RE the one talking out of his @ss! Speaking of 'talking out of one's ass'... The Green Bay Packers signed 2008 second-round pick QB Brian Brohm to their practice squad on Sunday. A league source said one of the reasons why Brohm passed through waivers unclaimed was because he carried a partial base salary guarantee on his contract. link BTW, one of the reasons Brohm was placed on waivers/practice squad to begin with is that, for some strange reason, the Packers decided to go with only 2 QBs and carry 6 RBs that season. Clearly, the Packers wanted Brohm - they guaranteed part of his contract and then tried to match the Bills offer - and gambled big time trying to hide him on their practice squad because Rogers and Flynn had the #1 and #2 spots locked up. By almost every scouting report, Brohm - who was a Heisman candidate and projected as the #1 overall pick by at least one scouting report in 2007 before opting to remain in college - is clearly the most promising QB prospect currently on the Bills roster. Ferchrissakes, let's see what the kid still has before writing him off just because GB's front office screwed up.

K Gun Special Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Brett Favre recent enough for you? I was referring to guys who were busts then cut/released then became franchise QBs. My original point was why people were so big on BB.... i was really asking not putting him down.
The Dean Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I was referring to guys who were busts then cut/released then became franchise QBs. My original point was why people were so big on BB.... i was really asking not putting him down. BB was never a "bust" either.
The Senator Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Kudos to you sir. All the Brohm haters care gonna still say your wrong though. Yeah, they probably will. Par for the TSW course, I guess. But kudos to Brohm for eschewing Green Bay's filthy lucre, and instead recognizing the opportunity that existed in Buffalo among the wretched refuse that is Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
K Gun Special Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 BB was never a "bust" either. when your 2nd round QB doesnt make the team in his 2nd year.... i think hes a bust, at least for GB perhaps not the NFL.
saundena Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Trent already was outplayed in the 1st preseason game. Fitz produced two touchdowns (1 passing 1 rushing while he was at QB) and had a 97.6 QB rating. Trent produced 1 interception and a FG while at the helm and had a QB rating of 29.2. Trent got schooled. The reason Gailey did not play Brohm in game 1 was twofold. 1. 3 of the Bills' starting OLinemen were injured and 2. it was the first preseason game and things were certain to be awful. Trent got the temporary starting job because of seniority and experience which is also the reason Fitz got the 2nd spot. Brohm will come in this week after Trent puts up another dismal performance and probably play at least as well as Fitz did if not substantially better. then Gailey will knock Trent down to 3rd if he doesn't just cut him. He puts Brohm as 1 and Fitz at 2 and Brown at 3. No reason to elevate Brown to 2. He looked to raw last week to put him in as a backup in a potentially critical spot. Great Post, I agree 100%! Makes sense not to put an unknown like Brohm into a situation where 3 O-linemen are out.
The Dean Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 when your 2nd round QB doesnt make the team in his 2nd year.... i think hes a bust, at least for GB perhaps not the NFL. I think you are a bust if you have had a chance to play and have stunk up the joint. You aren't really a bust if you are drafted onto a team with other good/great players at the position and don't get a chance to play. They obviously weren't looking for Brohm to be the starting QB right away when they drafted him. Sometimes you have to consider context.
Alphadawg7 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Aren't these things contradictory? He puts too much air under his deep passes so the DB catches up to the receiver, but he overthrew Johnson on a deep pass? First, nobody is going to throw every single pass the exact same way. Second, you can still have a ton of air on a deep pass and still over throw a WR like he did Stevie...

NOBODY HIDES A PLAYER ONE YEAR REMOVED FROM THE 2ND ROUND OF THE NFL DRAFT ON A PRACTICE SQUAD BY WAIVING HIM 1st!!!!!! If Brohm had ANY potential someone would have picked the guy off of waivers, a few extra $ would not have stopped them if he had anything. By the end of preseason when CHAN GAILEY writes him off you'll realize how moronic your manlove for Brohm is. I sure hope the Bills don't pick up Timmy Chang off some sandlot. His college stats will have the Brohm guys drooling.

Albany,n.y. Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Ever hear of Brett Favre? He was quickly jettisioned out of Atl after only 1 year and being in the coaches dog house...I do believe he was a 2nd round pick too. He was TRADED for a 1st ROUND PICK. Why couldn't GB trade Brohm for even a 7th before they waived him? Big difference between being traded for a 1st round pick & getting waived, you think?
Albany,n.y. Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Um...they did. Not last September when he was waived. You can make all the excuses you want but the facts are: GB waived him last September Nobody claimed him last September All reports are Trent Edwards has outplayed him from the day Gailey arrived Trent Edwards is not a good QB If Trent Edwards is not a good QB & he's outplayed Brian Brohm, Brohm has to be pretty friggin bad.
