Maybin played the entire game tonight.

And I'm really glad.

He got tossed around out there. And I'm glad.

A year after being taken in the first round, he's on our roster at least until the end of this year. So if he gets tossed around for four entire preseason games, great. Let him take his licks. Based on how badly he was manhandled by the Washington first and second stringers, I'm guessing he doesn't even sniff the field during the regular season.

The dude is small. Not even for a professional football player, but for a grown athletic male, he's small.

If he gets nicked during the preseason gauntlet that I hope Chan continues to put him through, it will be the best thing for his career. He needs to take 11 months, and gain 40 pounds. Or else he's out.

Maybin can turn the corner...... he came out of Penn State to early and needs to mature;however, I saw serious potential for a demon pass rush specialist tonight based on technigue and not sacks(even though he had em and numerous pressures) . Let me be clear, I am in no way endorsing Maybin;although, the cliche "Maybin sucks" is starting to sound "football ignorant" after last years DJ debacle of Bills football. Look at the top 20 DE or OLB players drafted in 2009 and name them who had an impact on their team. Curry 4th overall had 61 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Tyson Jackson 3rd overall 31 tackles and 0.0 sacks. Orackapo 13 th overall had 60 tackles and 11 sacks( a HR for a rookie season). Larry English 16 th overall had 30 tackles and 2 sacks. Robert Ayers 18th overall pick had 19 tackles and 0.0 sacks.I did exclude Cushing(135 tackles and 5 sacks) due to steroid and HG use that will slow him when he is off whatever it is or wasnt he claims.

I watched the game and didnt see him get tossed around.............as much as you imply he did. Are you having Bills loser illness that you no longer can be open minded to having a competitive team or is it easier to he believe sucks...he is too small...get your empiracal facts right and make a "cerebral fit" football opinion that doesnt fit in like a loser getting cheesy tattoos to fit in(unlike in the old days when people got them to be different) 2010.

Sure, Deano, he's quick, but he's playing way WAY too light. How much of that quickness does he maintain when finally gets up to a reasonable playing weight?

Maybin looked like a little boy playing against men. Sad. Also, looking at Cargo playing with the 3s, Spiller looking very small and mortal and a bunch of 2nd tier castoffs ( torbor, davis, et al) starting on defense, I question this franchise's ability, frankly, to field a competitive NFL team. in my lifetime. It is what it is, fan or no fan, these guys really are quite bad. Even the special teams are now bad. We are looking at one of the worst seasons in the history of the franchise guys. Ive been a fan for 40 years, and this is looking like 1985-6 again. And we played our 1s more than the skins did. Sad. and the skins are in completely new offense and defense as well this year. so forget the "we are learning new stuff" excuse. so were they.

Preach on! I look at every starting position on this team and ask myself, "Who would I want from the rest of the league to start in place of _____?" The only guys on this team that I would keep as starters if I could pick from the entire NFL is Moorman, Byrd, Wood, and maybe Lindell. That's it. I'll cut the rookies some slack since this is their first real game but the rest can go pound sand.

How do you have the say about his playing weight? Schobel was 240 when he came out of TCU, Taylor was 238 when he was a rookie. The top 2 of the best statistical DE over the last decade in the AFC East. You have the &$^&% to say you know more than Chan and Buddy(who drafted every pro bowl Charger for over the last decade)Nix... get off you high horse and accept the fact that size in the middle and speed on the edge is the formula for 34 to flourish.......Charles Haley 245...sorry your too light.....Jevon Kearse 240(rookie weight)...no your playing too light...Elvis Dumervil..sorry your only 6"0 DE are 6"4 and above. Go watch the film learn some bonafide system other than the Madden garbage plays people think is NFL...Not even close...not even close....

I did see Trent Williams toss Maybin around like a rag doll early in the game. But I am not a Maybin hater, so I wasn't focused on him as much as the haters are.

Let's face it...

another blown high first round draft pick.

I wonder if he can skate.

Schobel, Taylor, Dumervil, Kearse, Haley..........Maybin?

Let me know when he makes his FIRST play- not a sack... a PLAY.

Maybin looks like a small forward at Fredonia compared to those guys.

Just as I was preaching. My sons friends always see him in State Colledge acting like a fool in the bars. Big show. Anyway all they talk about is how small he is. They say he isn`t 6-4 either. More like 6-2. My son who lifts alot ,wants to kick his aZZ. He`s not going up against Costal Carolina anymore. Money Maybin says it all. The curse of DICK.

I was thinking the same thing. The speed is there, the guy is fast. I think the anouncer said it was the first time he had seen Maybin do a spin move(that was when he recorded the sack). Hopefully he can figure our more moves.

Maybe we should have Roscoe at OLB then...he's quick and small too.

I thought it was a good indicator that they kept him in there. It seems like they reconize his raw talent and really want him to get a lot of experience and get to that level of understanding. I think they are definently pushing him.

Agree. Arrived late, signed late, still late. He needs game experience at a position better suited to him. Plus we were down LB's.

Maybin sucks, the Bills suck, the organization as a whole sucks,(insert sarcasm here) so just sell the Bills, and for that matter sell the Sabres, and keep pro sports out of Western NY for good so we can all have less to stress out and complain about and get back to doing nothing but freezing our butts off and paying high taxes. Woo Hoo!!!!. I think this is what many of us deserve if all we can do is rip on everything the Bills do. Championship teams are all that matter so lets all go down with the ship that has too may holes to stay afloat.

Sorry but had a rough week and it is only pre-season for pete's sake! Pick a back-up team to root for and get over it or have a few more to dull the pain. Just my opinion as always.

The most important thing here is appears to be not that Maybin sucked but that Gailey apparently gave him so many minutes of play to suck. Given the simple large roster size and the fact that a lot players can use a lot of PT getting used to a new D and that players need to get used to playing with each other, the significant investment of PT that Gailey gave to Maybin is simply a testimony that Gailey must expect this investment to pay off.

I hope that the analogy in the long run I hope we think applies is that it proves to be like learning to ride a bike. When almost all people start it just looks ugly the fondering around and the spasticity. However, almost suddenly the body/mind gets it and one almost not even remember what one would have to do to "ride" in such an uncoordinated way for any length of time.

One hopes that the Maybin PT is a sign that Gailey and the crew simply expect him to suddenly get it.

Don't understand the hate as i listened to theisman tell us all night long how Maybin was always around the play and making things happen. He and Troup looked good to me. They made more tackles and plays in their first few minutes then Stroud did or any of our LBs and Dts. I watched the game and saw a small, quick OLB that just needs to grow and fill out. He's only 21 yrs old. Not many LBs are as quick as him.

This is why I was not thrilled about the drafting of Maybin, I did not see him as an instant impact player, and may not have a real impact until his third season.

However if he plays as much in the preseason as he did tonight, he may just have an impact this season.

I'm also hoping he gets plenty of PT. If you look at Bruce's early years he didn't exactly tear it up, and he was an Outland trophy winner, 1st over all pick. There is hope for the kid.

I could not agree more with Maybin not being able to play in the pro game at this point.

Here is a guy that was drafted so high, held out, etc, and has done nothing since. Worse than nothing, he showed absolutely no signs of improvement from last season, as he only looked somewhat proficient when he was playing the 'Skins 3rd stringers.

Against the 1st and 2nd teamers, he looked terrible.

Thanks, Jauron. When both Oher and Orakpo were available....

I think he looked better the few plays he stood up...with hand on ground he looked average; however he did get a sack with his hand down with that spin move. He should be utilized more as a LB and even on rush downs, pass rush as a standup DE.

Again, there is simply a difference between him looking like crap and getting thrown around like a rag doll and the coaching braintrust benching him and the same shabby play and the coaching staff sticking with him.

They are investing valuable PT in him one assumes because they expect it to payoff.

One explanation for this is that the coaches are deranged and are just obviously wasting time in a move that will cost them their livelihoods and reps

OR

they see some fairly fundamental flaws (for example highly drafted from a quality football manufacturing outlet Ryan Denney simply could not be put on a football field playing against scrubs because he did not bend his knees properly at the point of a hit and thus could not get proper leverage and apply his big body and great strength.

With training however, he became a competent (though not a star at all pro.

The more us outside observers make a case that he looks horrendous out there simply makes even more of a case if true that the PT he has gotten means the braintrust sees a lot there and a potential for correcting it that MAY be phenomenal.
