flopagamo Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Crazy thing is -- we could go 5-11 and still have lots of improvement on both sides of the ball. Our schedule is harder than last year, especially our road schedule. The rest of the division keeps improving, and we don't seem to be... which helps folks lose patience, and makes folks get chippy on forums. 0-6 in the AFC East is probably an even-money bet (maybe we'll get the Fish once?), and then add in the rest of the schedule, and it is even more bleak. I think we Bills fans are justified in venting spleens at Russ Brandon and Ralph Wilson. Rooting your guts out for a team is an emotional thing... when winning or losing.
joejoebills Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I really have been skeptical of all the moves the Bills made since last year but after thinking it over, who is looking down at them ? We hire professional coaches and management to handle the team. A majority of the detractors couldn't coach a pop-Warner game. We need to see everything as fans first and realize that our input is as limit as the length our remote is, not far reaching. That doesn't mean that we don't have very intelligent posters here or people with inside knowledge, it just means that a majority of the people looking down don't know what their looking at anyways. Go Bills!! I've been reading TBD posts for the past 3-4 years and have never taken part myself so weather or not these posts are credible makes no difference to me. Its a great way to waste some time at work so thanks to you all for entertaining me these past 4 years. Except for that scooby dude who for some reason has stopped posting. Go Bills jjb
T.O. Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I went to games at the Rockpile, so none of this "non-fan" baloney. I dont get hung up on this player sucks or this coach sucks kind of stuff. It's a team effort whether you win or lose. Last year I was spot on with a 6-10 prediction. This year I predict 5-11. There will be no improvement, especially on offense. You dont need to be an insider, a former player, or a former coach to figure this team out. We suck. We have sucked, and we will continue to suck. Then RW will pass on and the team will leave. It's all pretty straightforward. Like you I have been to the "Rockpile" more times than most. Seen all the good teams play, and bad ones also since then. You are obviously not from Buffalo like me or a real fan sir. I was born and raised there. I remember when Ralph took a chance on Buffalo and the people who lived there and put a team there. Real Buffalonians and Western New Yorkers don't cry or quit like cur dogs. They are a tough, proud breed of people who get up off the ground when knocked down regardless of how many times there butt has hit the canvas. You sir with your ability to predict the future of gloom and doom should try playing the N.Y. lottery. And if you hit you should take your money and buy a ticket to San Fran where your sucking abilities can be put to better use. When you say "we suck" speak for yourself and the lineage you come from. The Bills and their fans will be winners again someday and it won't be in another city! You see "real winners never quit and quiters never win". A quote from Mr. Herrell P.S # 73 1956. That's Public School # 73 Buffalo, New York quote for you out of towners who don't understand the people or our regions mentality. Better yet go see a training video like "Rocky" it may help you and then again maybe not. And If you are sir, by chance remotely from the Buffalo area, you are probably the loser we use to beat up and sent home crying. If we didn't we should have. "No guts, no glory" remember that you POS!
Direhard Fan Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I have been a fanatic since 1960- thru the Good, The Bad and the Ugly. You are so right. I look forward to this season as I have for every past season. I have a good feeling about our new leaders. Good old boys. Reminds me of "Bum".

CodeMonkey Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 We suck. We have sucked, and we will continue to suck. Then RW will pass on and the team will leave. It's all pretty straightforward. We suck - I agree, we probably will this season too. But I'm hoping to see potential for future non-sucking (see below). We have sucked - Everyone knows this. we will continue to suck - Can't say that is cast in stone as far as I am concerned. With the sweeping coaching change as well as a GM change (one can argue the quality of either, but I don't think many would argue that both are an upgrade) I hope to see signs that we are on the road to respectability. And with a few successful drafts and FA acquisitions start thinking of the playoffs as a possibility instead of a pipe dream. Of course only time will tell.

Mr. WEO Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Having an opinion without seeing the final product is my point, complain at will after having a reason too. Until we have the first 4 or 5 games played, we all know nothing. Judging the team early and claiming the knowledge to know the future because you knew something last year is joke, give it a rest. Really? I think that regardless of what people like to perceive as us being (a losing team, etc...), I feel we have a potential top 3 secondary and a top 5 running attack based on talent alone. As witnessed with the Jets last season, having top areas on both sides of the ball can lead you to better things.
Skoobydum Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 Really? Every news outlet has basically buried us, so I'd plan on no one seeing us coming. They wont be passing deep on us and they will see enough runs to require a diaper, plan on us taking more than expected down. We will also not quit and be in shape to play, unlike the past half decade. Things are changing, witness them come game 1.

We almost beat NE. 1st game Defense was not bad at al. Out on the field too long- thats all. I believe you will find a different additude this year with tough coaching. Hope is eternal.l
Direhard Fan Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Sir- You cerainly are a real fan. Me- School #80 Highgate Ave 1958, Mrs Brown priciple so I've been with the Bills for ever. And will always be . Jim will buy the team and we will remain in Buffalo. And kiss Toronto good buy.
John Cocktosten Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 How about this for an analogy. I use to bet on horses. I didn't know a whole lot about horses. I didn't know training methods either. But, I knew how to read the daily racing form. It showed the history of past race performance. With the Bills, it is pretty much the same stable of horses with a different trainer/coach. Yes, sometimes a new trainer can bring life to a bad horse. But, Chan Gaily did not just claim ONE bad horse. He and Nix inherited a stable of bad horses and it's doubtful all of them are suddenly going to turn into Kentucky Derby horses. Maybe one or two of the horses will get better but not all of them. I don't need to be an expert at football (nor horses) to know where to put my money. I am looking forward to the season and hoping for modest improvement throughout the year...especially for the offense. GO BILLS Your post makes way to much sense to be taken seriously on this board.

Team sport played by human beings with a coaching staff of about one dozen. Eighty players presently competing for 53 jobs. No indication yet on how many of those 53 players will be the same as on last year's roster. Installation of two completely new and different systems. Versus Sport where the participant is a horse, trained by a small group of people, to perform in a race against other "individuals." I'm thinking the analogy isn't a good one. There have been "worst to first" teams numerous times in the past several NFL seasons. Your analogy (the past history predicts future performance argument) would have been a lot more relevant last year as we had largely the same coaches, players, and schemes as the previous years. I don't disagree with your conclusion, only how you arrived at it.
FightinIrishBills Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 It's very easy to be blithely spout off that the Bills will be terrible. But what have been our most glaring weaknesses the past few years? At least under the Dick Jauron era, it can reasonably be said that: 1.) The Bills have suffered from a lack of offensive cohesion (e.g. unable to move the ball well enough, poor QB play) 2.) The Bills' defense has not been able to effectively stop the run (although as I have posted before, at least regarding last year, that I think that is also due to the high quality of opposing teams' run games as much as our defense) I wouldn't be going out on too far of a limb if I said that definitely the first point, if not the second as well, was caused in large part by injuries. All I'm saying is that it's not fair to rag on the Bills for being so bad if we haven't had a chance to see the talent work together as a healthy, cohesive whole. Yes, I know that injuries are a part of the game, but the Bills might be the most snake-bitten team in the NFL on the injury front (maybe snake-bitten isn't the right word there; I, like many others, firmly believe that poor strength and conditioning has been the teams's literal Achilles heel). When you're plugging in street free agents at OL, it's doubtful that any QB will look like Peyton Manning. In concert with the fact that the Bills have had a series of uncreative and overly conservative conservative OCs (paging Steve Fairchild), you have no one able to compensate for injuries with imaginative offensive schemes. Long story short, let's hope that we can stay healthy enough to showcase what this team really is. Honestly, I don't know if we can call the last couple years accurate gauges of our talent.
John Cocktosten Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Your analogy (the past history predicts future performance argument) would have been a lot more relevant last year as we had largely the same coaches, players, and schemes as the previous years. Has THIS organization been successful rebuilding in the last 10 years? No, so the analogy fits perfectly. It's less about Nix and Co and more about Ralph without Polian.
Bills fan in TX Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Has THIS organization been successful rebuilding in the last 10 years? No, so the analogy fits perfectly. It's less about Nix and Co and more about Ralph without Polian. No, the analogy doesn't fit perfectly as is the case with most analogies. Maybe we can start a string of the perfect analogy to describe the Buffalo Bills? Just kidding but my analogy does make sense (or cents?) if you look at it from a gambler's perspective. When gambling on horses or football (or jai alai for that matter) past performance makes a difference. And yes, there are teams that go from worst to first. That is why I'm still optimistic for a great season but in all reality, I'll be happy with modest improvement throughout the season. And to go back to my original analogy...we have new trainers with a lot of young horses in the stable that I hope will turn into studs! Remember, the Kentucky Derby is for 3 yr olds.
Mark Vader Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Here's the way it is. The football year is split into 2 sections: 1. Off-Season: from the day after the Super Bowl to the day before the 1st regular season game. This is the time of year when hope springs eternal, and most everyone is at least just a little optimistic about the Bills. There will be some negativity presented by some, but it will get beaten down pretty quick by the more vocal Pollyanna fans who can't accept any differing opinions. 2. Season: from the 1st PREseason game to the Super Bowl. This is when reality sets in. Everyone still hopes for the best at first, but things usually start falling apart sooner or later, especially the last 10 years. Often-times the only satisfying (not redeeming by any means, but satisfying) aspect of a dismal Bills season is watching the attacking Pollyanna fans from the off-season deservedly forced to eat a big plate of sh**.... that is, at least the ones that don't go an extended business trip and disappear. Bottom line, if the attacking Pollyannas are getting under your skin, just wait. Fixed
Mark Vader Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Well said. I've always enjoyed your posts because I read them in Keith Richards current voice and secondly they are well timed, funny as hell and on point. I never remember it being so "pollyan-ish" on this board. Grant it, I wasn't around when Marv returned (I would imagine that it was a billlion times worse) so it might just be a "New Regime" phenomina . Laslty, I will take no satisfaction in another bad Bills season. What I will take satisfaction in is the "pollys" proclaiming, "NEXT YEAR IS OUR YEAR!" You should have seen what this board was like during the Flutie-Johnson debacle. Yikes! During that time there were moments when I was afraid to enter this site.
Rico Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 FixedI hear ya, but I don't really feel that way. Unless they are really annoying like starting threads bitching about negativity & what great fans they are, I usually leave the Pollys alone till the season starts... after all, this is their time.
