BillsfaninFl
Gotta love the statement Buddy made just 2 days ago about Schobel not being released. If they do release him today not only does it look like you let him go without getting anything for him, you look like an even bigger ass because you are doing something you expressly said you weren't going to do. Maybe there really aren't any options for the Bills, but if you're a GM you should have realized that a few days ago and not said something stupid about not releasing him. This is exactly why I'm not willing to give the new regime much credot until they actually show me something - right now it seems like the same old Bills front office...... While I don't think the Bills had any choice about Schobel, the brass definitely is showing they are liars. Your example is a good one and there are others. I'm still ticked that Chan said he would not draft a "one year wonder", then went out and did it at WR. It's one thing to spin the upcoming season's potential (because they must), but it is another to throw out statements and contradict them a few days later. The delusionals keep saying give them a chance, but the evidence keeps mounting on the negative side of the scale.
Trader
3 Points on this 1) As Florio says, the Bills blinked 2) As I have said, Schobel just totally punked the Bills. It didn't smell right from the start and now we know why. Schobel might have been seriously considering retirement. But, it sounds more like, he was only considering retirement playing for the BILLS. I imagine his agent finally said, "hey listen, there are ways out of here".... And he said, "okay, lets do it". This is a way bigger insult to the fans and organization than anything McGahee, Lynch, Peters or everyones favorite punching bag (for no reason) Aaron Maybin have done. Schobel could have easily demanded a trade either publicly or privately and the Bills could have gotten something in return. Now all that happened is that Buddy Nix looks like a moron. 3) The organization really screwed the pooch on this one. Maybe they believed the retirement ruse. I dunno. But, they just got hoodwinked no matter what. If they knew Aaron was unhappy, they should have looked for trading partners a long time ago. Sure, some can point to the Favre comparison and what he did to the Packers. Difference is, Favre actually retired, the team didn't really have much authority to do anything. Schobel was under contract up until today. Nix should have known better. He had two choices, 1) hold out hope that Schobel was going to come back (which is what the organization did) 2) Figure out the real story with Schobel and his agent and work on a trade. You can't tell me with a straight face that Schobel wouldn't have wanted to be traded to the Texans this offseason. THe retirement issue wasn't about football. It was about Buffalo. One word sums it up: inept
NoSaint
Agree........but I can't see him getting 2 million as a situational pass rusher. Even with his experience, he's going to be late coming into a team's camp, having to learn all new terminology. Can't see that happening for 2 mill. whats the going rate for guys coming off 10 sack seasons? ones that have averaged 10 a year there entire career? im pretty sure average backups make more then that. who said situational pass rusher? im pretty sure he would start just about any place he went.... Astrobot
this is not news. the AP has reported that at least once. on June 10 AP reported: ¶ Also factoring into Schobel's decision is whether he has enough time to move his family back to Buffalo and able to get his children into the school they've attended. ¶ That's a switch after Schobel, in March, said he was open to the possibility of living alone in Buffalo and traveling to Texas to be with his family on off days. He's now realized that the travel would wear him out. jw Houston Texans here we come. I liked Schobel when he was an all-out player. I wish him well on the Texans. Cookiemonster
Looks like someone murdered your avatar! I'll bet we can get this group involved a very worthwhile dialogue on whether it was Mr. Wilson, Mr. Nix or Mr. Schobel! Probably Marshawn, he is always packing! Not trying to argue with you, but I think Nix was referring to the 1st round when saying he wouldn't draft a one year wonder. The rules change as you get further into the draft for obvious reasons. That's like calling him out on saying we are going to draft players that can come in and help this team, then they cut a guy they draft in the 7th round, and calling them liars.
