One definition of being cantankerous is firing his HC, Phillips, and then refusing to pay him because he didn't want to. His spoiled brat behavior was quickly overturned by the league.

An example of being a buffoon is hiring Levy who was out of the NFL and in no way equipped for the position he was hired for because he was comfortable with him. Another example of his buffoonery is to replace him in the GM position and head of football operations with a marketing specialist.

The owner has a half century worth of foolishness. Just look at the record.

I guess I just can't get over the hatred of an old man who has never hurt anyone here. Yes, I know we haven't made the playoffs in 10 years and he has made many bad moves running this team but the childish name calling is ridiculous. I am as frustrated as everyone else. I guess I'm getting older and having lost both parents I just don't get it. Remember, it's football.

I, as you, have lost both of my parents. How that is related to my comments about the owner is beyond me? My views on this particular owner has absolutely nothing to do with him hurting me or anyone else. Your point on him hurting anyone is off the wall.

Very true... I am a survivor of melanoma and have a very fair-skinned daughter we have to watch closely. I was diagnosed about 17 years ago, went thru extensive surgery and have had no further incidents. It was very frightening how a little mole or "spot" can lead to death.

I truly feel for his family. My condolences, also.

That makes 2 of us. Surgery was not extreme thankfully.

Godspeed to Kaye and thoughts to the rest of the Cowher family.

Excuse me? A "dirt bag" because he didn't want a specific job? Who the f**k are you to decide what is the "perfect fit" for someone else?

Grow up.

RIP Mrs. Cowher

Sorry, for making you mad. Your missing the point of my post. However, you do have the right to your opinion as I do, as well as every other person. I only ask if your going to jump down my throat for expressing my thoughts, please do it to everyone else on this web site and every other web/ media outlet in the world, Because just like me, "Who the f**k are" they to express their thoughts. Anyway, like I said before, my prayers go out to Bill and his family.

When you decided to stay at McDonald's drive-thru instead of taking a Burger King grill job did that qualify you a dirt bag as well?

How was Buffalo ever a perfect fit for him?

The Bills have a 90+ year old owner that might have eaten his last breakfast today.

The Bills haven't sniffed the playoffs in the 21st century.

The Bills QB situation is one of the worst in the NFL.

The list could go on for days...

My condolences to the Cowher family. They are first class in every way.

What made Bill the perfect fit is he has the ability and skill to turn the team around. ( sorry, just stating my opinion, please don't blast me for it, I wasn't aware you had to have a Ph. D in profootball to post here) It funny, I haven't been able to find many teams in the NFL that have made the playoff multiple times it the last 10 years, and have a excellent Qb situations, that are looking for a new head coach.

Bill Rode on the ability of LeBeau's ability to put together a defense. When Dick left for the Bengals job, Bills teams were pretty average. Once Lebeau came back and he got a good QB in the draft, Bill was able to put together a wild-card team SB run.

Without LeBeau, Bill was another average coach like Marty.

I thought Bill Cowher was a dirt bag were he refused to take the Buffalo Job this year. I really thought it was the perfect fit for him. Now maybe we know why? In any event my feeling for bill have changed, Maybe it not, Ralph, small market, the city, etc, etc. No matter what the case, my prayers to him and his family.

So sorry for them - so young - really sad

I disagree. When Cowher's coordinators left, they weren't as good, proof, to me, that Cowher succeeded despite his assistants. As to LeBeau, when LeBeau left from 1997-2003, the Steelers still had a great defense, consistently in the top 10:

97: #6 overall defense

98: #12

99: #11

00: #7

01: #1

02: #7

03: #9

The #s may be masking their true identity. LeBeau and his defense put them over the top. The biggest thing I liked about Cowher was that he played tough and was committed to running the ball.

Maybe-- hard to look at factors that are not quantifiable. Dom Capers had a better defense the year before LeBeau took over as DC-- but LeBeau was also a defensive assistant on Capers' staff.

I just think Cowher, while not a good game-day coach, was a solid football coach who could make a team good based on fundamentals, and irrespective of his staff. If we hired Cowher, we would have between 8 and 12 wins almost every year. Same with Schottenheimer.
