Doc Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 My condolences. And as I've been saying, there are lots of reasons why coaches and players don't want to play in Buffalo, that don't involve the owner.
Bufcomments Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 RIP Mrs Cowher. 54 is young and they had 3 girls that will miss MOM. Sad story even if it wasn't football related.
Pilsner Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 RIP Mrs. Cowher. What a sad time for the Cowher family.
VADC Bills Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Kind of like what Paul Harvey use to say...now we know the rest of the story. Condolences to the Cowher family.
lets_go_bills Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I was sad to hear this. Coach Cowher is a great man who I have a lot of respect for. God bless.
/dev/null Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I lost my Mom to Cancer. It's a terrible disease that ravages the victim and their family Best wishes Bill
Chandler#81 Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 R.I.P. Mrs. Cowher My condolences to the Cowher family
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 This explains a lot. Word on the street in Pittsburgh was that Kaye was controlling the shots as to Bill's retirement and whether he would take another coaching job. Everyone assumed it was because she wanted to live close to her family in NC--but it appears that it was because she was sick. Very sad.
JohnC Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 My condolences. And as I've been saying, there are lots of reasons why coaches and players don't want to play in Buffalo, that don't involve the owner. It is pathetic the way you can take a tragic situation and use it as a defense for a lame owner. Bill Cowher worked years for a very classy and respected ownership in Pittsburgh under the Rooney family. There is absolutely no chance under any cricumstansces that he would seriously consider working for a cantankerous 92 yr old buffoon owner who has for a half century demonstrated his foolishness. Just give me a break!

JohnC Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Wilson is many things but cantankerous and a buffoon? Do you know the definitions of these words? One definition of being cantankerous is firing his HC, Phillips, and then refusing to pay him because he didn't want to. His spoiled brat behavior was quickly overturned by the league. An example of being a buffoon is hiring Levy who was out of the NFL and in no way equipped for the position he was hired for because he was comfortable with him. Another example of his buffoonery is to replace him in the GM position and head of football operations with a marketing specialist. The owner has a half century worth of foolishness. Just look at the record.

tennesseeboy Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Wow..that is one hard blow to take. I pray for him and his family.
Passepartout Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Thoughts and prayers are with the Cowher family during this tough and tragic time.
dollars 2 donuts Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Ya know, I'm not sure if Bill was going to comeback to coaching, but you hit that stage in your life where your kids are grown and happy, you have been successful and you just want to relax, like the Cowher's did in eventually moving back to NC and Bill saying I'm done for awhile. These are supposed to be the happy times...54 years old. God Bless the Cowher family and all those families whose lives have felt the full effect of this disease.
ganesh Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I do think this makes much more sense as to why he chose not to coach this year. You can bet if there is a season next year he takes over the Panthers right there in his back yard. Actually his backyard is Pittsburgh. Bill Cowher grew up in Crafton, just outside the downtown Pittsburgh area. Bill moved down to NC to spend time with his girls who were on basketball scholarships there and also to let his wife spend time with her family (who is actually from that area). Bill and Kay met when they went to school in NC state.
Mr. WEO Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Yes, I admittedly jumped the gun. It irks me the way fans presume to know things when they are, in fact, clueless. Myself included. Actually, you were making a great point, don't back away. Sure the OP was offering an opinion--so were you, as you pointed out how lame his claim that Cowher was a dirtbag for not taking the job. For some reason, the OP hasn't figured out why the job isn't attractive to top coaching candidates.
CFLstyle Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 When you decided to stay at McDonald's drive-thru instead of taking a Burger King grill job did that qualify you a dirt bag as well? How was Buffalo ever a perfect fit for him? The Bills have a 90+ year old owner that might have eaten his last breakfast today. The Bills haven't sniffed the playoffs in the 21st century. The Bills QB situation is one of the worst in the NFL. The list could go on for days... My condolences to the Cowher family. They are first class in every way. guys, would you relax, he was just saying what he thought about Cowher when he didn't take the Buffalo job and how his feelings have changed since then, and he was sharing his condolences. RIP my prayers are with the Cowher family.
CowgirlsFan Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 He and his family deserve our sympathies. Some things are much more important than football. + 1
