SpecialK15 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Now that we have only two draft picks left to sign, I'm curious as to how long it will take to get Troup under contract because of his unique position. He was a drafted nose tackle and that is a unique position with limited back up options. Granted Kyle Williams is the projected starter. He is unproven in the NFL, but will we wind up "over paying" for him because of the attention a NT needs for a successful 3-4? Just a thought and would like to get feedback. Jason Ferguson just retired, but we still have two premier NTs in our division in Wilfork and Jenkins and both are well paid.
kota Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 It's my understanding with rookie contracts it's all pretty much slotted. They end up debating length of contract, how much he gets per year, and guaranteed money amount. The player will want more guaranteed money and most of his money in the first few years of the contract. The organization will try to do the opposite. there is no way Troup gets wilfork or jenkins money.
Spillerwich Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I hope that Troup see's that he is in a good position to become a great player in the NFL and for the Bills. I can live with the fact that Spiller goes into training camp without a contract. It won't be long because the Rams want Bradford in camp on time! That will push the buttons of all the other player to do the same. Congrats to Carrington!! Lets Go Buffalo!!!
silvermike Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I wouldn't stay up worrying about overpaying him. I mean, we might overpay him, and that would mean something like 4 years, $6M: which would be a huge raise from Jarius Byrd's $1m/season deal at a similar slot last year.
reddogblitz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I'll be surprised is Spiller is signed by week 3 of regular season.
