Sure it's an exaggeration, but beyond the basic scope of the enumerated powers of the Federal government you can draw a lot of parallels. The basic purpose of government is protection. You pay them off via taxes, permits, campaign contributions, and if you don't pay they shut you down and !@#$ you up.
