birdog1960 Posted July 19, 2010 Author Share Posted July 19, 2010 any comments on means testing for S.S. benefits and medicare? this really is delving into socialism in my opinion.... much more than anything else recently proposed or made policy...and it appears to be OK with both parties. this obviously gives those who paid in the most, the least benefits. The real problem is that SSI became the dumping ground for every social ill of those perceived as poor or needy, when it was intended to be simply a socialized retirement program. I laughed when Maggie Mahar said ""We all know that the poor die sooner. Poverty is stressful." Oh boo freaking hoo! My great grandmother was born a decade or two after the Civil War, married a tenant farmer, raised 10 children, lived through two world wars, smoked a pipe, and lived to be almost a hundred. It is not the stress, it is how you react to stress that causes problems. Sorry for the confusion. I missed that you were calling Rob a dumbass for calling me a dumbass, you dumbass. None of my parents, grandparents or great grandparents ever used those favorite cliches to declare that my generation had it easier than there's. They did tell interesting stories that are a part of history we cannot afford to lose. Example: You could always tell when spring was coming because the only pages left in the Sears catalog in the outhouse were the shiny pages!
