I can't believe I've forgotten about Alex Chilton! Think I'm still in denial--there's my excuse
Buftex Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I would say Nick Drake, but he lives now, more than when he was alive, in commercials.
Corp000085 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Anyone mention Robert Johnson? I remember reading an article some years ago where Jimmy Page was listening to a Robert Johnson recording and he asked who the other guy was playing with him. He was shocked to hear that it was one guy playing.   And since we're not limited to rock and roll, how about some love for Mozart and Beethoven? I'm sure that 99% of you know, but Beethoven wrote his major works while deaf.  I especially love his 9th symphony. Written while he was a) completely deaf b) totally drunk c) dying of syphilis  Dude was drunk, insane, and totally friggin deaf when he wrote this. There's 6 more clips after this one if you're interested in the whole thing.   *I can't stress this enough, the dude couldn't hear what he was writing.

Son House and Skip James wrote the book. Beethoven was rock and roll
rockpile Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Impossible to name them all. Â John Lennon, George Harrison, Keith Moon, John Entwhistle, Richard Manuel, and Rick Danko hit me pretty hard, from three of my favorite bands. Â Lots of memories on this thread.
col_forbin Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 The fat man gets my vote. Can't believe it has been almost 15 years since he passed.
MattyT Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 The fat man gets my vote. Can't believe it has been almost 15 years since he passed. Elvis died way before that!

Corp000085 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Son House taught Robert Johnson how to play. Son House and Skip James wrote the book. Beethoven was rock and roll   No he didn't. The devil taught Robert Johnson to play at the crossroads in Moorehead, MS in exchange for his soul. Duh!
Chef Jim Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 Am I the first one to mention John Bonham? Â No.
buffaloaggie Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 No. Saw the Bonham reference. Totally missed it. Â Andrew Wood
Pete Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 No he didn't. The devil taught Robert Johnson to play at the crossroads in Moorehead, MS in exchange for his soul. Duh! Well Tommy Johnson sold his soul at the crossroads in Clarksdale before Robert Johnson. He also guitar played behind his back way before Jimi
