Hossage Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 A retail store wont do much except make Benderson Development Company 300 million dollars richer. That is the amount the state will kick in if the deal goes through. So many people have to be paid off for this to happen that it is moving very slowly. I live near the 92 year-old Nathan Benderson. They guy is a huge prick and so are his family members.
Wacka Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 The Great Recession has reduced U.S. household mobility. In WNY's case, that's a good thing since the grass is less green elsewhere (particularly in the southeast or west)... On the other hand, we've got the best commuting time performance of any medium to large U.S. city. Whoo Whooo! I have to laugh at people talking about traffic in Buffalo. The average commute in my area (SF Bay) is about 30 miles. I was going to the Oakland airport at 5:30 AM for a flight. My niece picked me up about 5 PM Buffalo time. She was apologizing for the "traffic' on the Mainline Thruway in Cheektowaga. The traffic on that was less than the traffic I saw at 5:30 AM here.

In soCal you'd be lucky to find a freeway that was moving let alone at 27 mph at 4:50 on a Friday.
MarkyMannn Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 In a sidenote New York was designated the most dysfunctional state in the US. Good Job NYS Government. The CSEA thinks its great. Just keep bumping taxes to increase benefits while doing nothing
BuffaloBill Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Buffalo-Niagara Falls is the 47th ranked metro area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo-Niaga...tropolitan_area Less than a hour and half away, Rochester has the 51th ranked metro area. Nearly 3 million people between Buffalo and Rochester really isn't that shabby. It would rank about 18th in the country. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_Unit...atistical_Areas Hence the Bills "regional" strategy. However, your analysis is a bit flawed because if all cities pulled in nearby population centers Buffalo would not stand at 18th on the list.

It's be interesting to see how many cities are liek a hour and 15 minutes like Buffalo and Rochester are. I don't think there are as many as you would think. Too lazy to really quick it now though. But the bottomline is Buffalo is shrinking, like a lot of Northeast cities have, but it's not some wasteland.

Door to door is 82 miles.
Chalkie Gerzowski Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 70th would be the worst ranking since the 1820 census.
