Love pineapples, apples, pears and grapes.

HATE watermelon. Why do seedless watermelons have seeds in them? And how are we getting watermelons if we have no seeds? Something's fishy......

John Waters. I find him really funny and smart. I think Polyester is a masterpiece.

Other than that, I like strawberries quite a bit.

I miss grapefruit, which I can no longer eat because of conflicts with one of my meds. I also like strawberries. Back when we lived in the Pgh area, there was a place named Trax farms, that had a u-pick-em field. Still in business, I see:

We had young spines then, so we picked.

Oh - if you suffer from gout - I take a tablespoon of black cherry juice per day. I've gone through it all - allopurinol, NSAIDS, diet restrictions and so on. For years. I have found that the recommendation of cherry juice to be an effective prophylactic, combined with a low purine diet.

I purchase this brand. $16.99 from the grocery chain, Meijer's. I pay half, for they have their buy one get one free sales.

Forgive me for touting a particular product - but for those who have writhed, I think you should give it a try. Herbs, supplements can be a big help. But use caution. Here's a site from the Univ. of MD which talks about such, and provides precautions:

Least favorite, mangos.

Funny you should say that. I thought I hated mangoes too, until just recently. I tried a mango from Harry and David the other day and it was 1,000x better than any mango I had ever tried before. The texture was not too soft or mealy. It was not too sweet or too tart at all—it was just right. And there were all kinds of delicious flavors going on in there. I think maybe mangoes get a bad rep due to bad quality in grocery stores. This one changed my whole take on the mango genre.

In fact, we had an extra one and my girlfriend made mango salsa. We had it with some salmon that I grilled out. Awesome. The next day, I had some on a veggie burger and it was delicious. Best veggie burger of my life so far. I know I’m rambling here, but it’s just that my mango universe has been turned upside-down.

Zocor? Lipitor? Mevacor?

I err on the side of precaution - I take one of the ACE I generics for mild hypertension. I'm aware of the metabolic problems with statins.

An excellent resource is The Pill Book:

There is a lot to be said for the statin compounds, but they have their own set of problems, and reducing lipid intake as the first thing goes a long way.

I've noticed a flurry of ads on tv recently for the fenofibrates to reduce triglycerides - TriCor, and another brand name. Read up on them, and approach any prescribing of them with *strong* skepticism. Generic Omega-3 supplements do a bang-up job of knocking down triglyceride levels - but use them cautiously - they can raise blood glucose levels and have a propensity to cause bleeding. If you have a diabetic condition, or a subtle blood disorder that shows excess protein fragments, go slow there.
