GG Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Because it was a direct shot. If he had passed it or the player in an offside position had collected a rebound or something then it would have been offside. Otherwise he clearly was not. The rule was changed years ago to cut down on irrelevant offside calls. Gotcha. Since I'm still on 1986 rules, that was offsides dammit
NyQuil Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Awesome job of refereeing today. This is stolen from bigsoccer. http://i47.tinypic.com/2rf829y.jpg Screw you Coulibay. I'd boycott exports from Mail if they had them.
linksfiend Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 That being said, the way to pass would be a win against Algeria and England beating Slovenia. If England ties Slovenia, it will go a 3 way tie breaker at 5 points. I'm going to hold off on the scenario analysis until after the England-Algeria game

McBeane Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Yup, thats exactly what the ESPN replays showed. Fast forward about a second or two and one of the guys is in a legit headlock. I've never seen any ref blow a call as bad as that.

meazza Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 You guys talk about how technology changes stuff. How many times have we had this discussion with respect to hockey and football? It happens with every sport. It even happens when NFL refs and NHL refs look at instant replay.

And this Slovenian defender claims it's U.S. players pushing and holding them........ link Slovenian defender Marko Suler was adamant the referee had made the correct decision to disallow Edu’s goal and accused the Americans of roughhouse tactics. “They were pushing and holding all the time,” Suler said. “You could see it was a foul and it was the correct decision. They did not deserve to win the game. It would not have been the correct result. We were the better team.”
Pete Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Algeria is hanging tough. 67 minutes in still 0-0. A tie would be so sweet! The US would control their fate if a tie went down here
