I called up and cancelled this year after having it since 1999 because I'll be out of the country for half the season and I think the team is really going to suck. However, when I called to cancel, all of a sudden they told me they had this $219 rate, including HD...just without redzone or superfan. I was tempted, but it would have been $219/8 games for me so it's still cheaper to go to a Sports bar around here. It's funny how there are all different rates for things. I had them note the price so next year when/if I resign up, they'll give it to me for $219....Gosh only knows what the rates will be then.

why pay when you can watch them live steam online. myp2p or atdhe.net has all the games.

Yesterday I called Directv to complain that they were going to be giving away 5 months of free service if you sign up for Sunday Ticket. Being an existing customer I asked the customer service guy if he thought that was a kick in the face and he agreed and passed me onto the special offers operator. I plead my case and they ended up giving me $20 off for six months. He said it's basically half price for the ticket. I was good w/ that.

Last year I got into a battle with AOL which was charging me for a service they were making free for new customers. They fought me tooth and nail against giving me a rebate. It got to the point where I filed a formal complaint to my local consumer affairs office against them.

 

After numerous correspondences and with the support of the consumer affairs office I finally was able to get a credit. I hope that I can more easily get a rebate without the rancor and energy expended.

Just got the 179 price as well. Took about 10 minutes to get them to 179 from an initial offer of 219, but they did it. As others have mentioned, I was nice and didn't threaten to cancel or anything. I've been a customer for a long time (12 years) so I can use that to my advantage. And, I just bluntly told them I was staring at a 20 page thread online where everyone's getting it for 179! It is a pretty good deal; less than I've paid (even with a discount) in recent years.

It's all backwards and upside down now.

 

It didn't used to be this way but I've been lamenting the "new business model" for many years now.

 

Companies like AOL screw their long time, faithful customers and instead offer the best deals to new subscribers to lure them in.

 

I wish companies would reward LOYALTY instead.

I used to have the Ticket years ago. The apt I live in now I'm not sure if I could get a dish even if I wanted to. It would be more cost effective for me to get it and stay home on sundays however, I go to a bar in NJ with a bunch of other fans and its a lot of fun. It certainly takes the sting out of some of the maddening things the Bills do on gameday. Watching at home I just tend to get really mad. However, I like PTR's idea. It would be worth it to subscribe for a month if I cant make it to the bar one week. You figure all our games are at one so you watch later in the afternoon.....

Much better ways to spend the time. The Bills are pretty hapless. They tend to be out of contention by week 10. Not much reason to watch after they bow out. It's wasted money, but more importantly wasted time. When you get to my age (50), you start using both time and money more wisely. Watching this train wreck of a team is just not my idea of a fun or productive Sunday.

 

If they somehow make the playoffs (LOL), I see it for free and they'll have my undivided attention. They have to start winning again to get me to invest any time or money on them.

 

 

 

It's not about the money with me. I've subscribed since 2002 but am not renewing this year because I'm tired of wasting sunday afternooons watching a bad football team lose. And that's saying something because I'm a huge Bills fan. I'll have a better time playing with my kids and not feel I wasted a precious day off work as I prepare for the upcoming work week. I'll certainly subscribe in 2011 if I see signs of us being competitive.

 

"Watch" is a subjective term. I have a blazing fast internet connection and I tried watching some games last year. It's a joke. Remember when you'd try to watch porn on a scrambled cable channel? It's almost that bad.

SJB, The AOL experience was one of the most exasperating consumer experiences I have ever had. I'm the type of person who understands the challenges of running a business and the difficulty of dealing with unreasonable customers. I have always given the business establishment the benefit of the doubt.

 

Right from the start AOL was unyielding. It wasn't until the County Consumer Affairs Office got involved that I was able to make headway. From a "legal standpoint" I didn't have a case. They sent me an underlined statement which was hidden in a variety of convoluted legalistic clauses that indicated that there would be no rebates. After months of back and forth sparring AOL finally relented due to their "goodwill". Screw them and their goodwill.

 

As a dramatic contrast to my AOL experience was the service I received from DirecTv. I spoke to a representative of DirecTv and asked for a NFL Ticket discount. I was immediately transferred to a special customer service staffer who worked with me to get the discount. There was a little friendly haggling but the rep was very professional and friendly. The rep stressed that the company appreciated my long term relationship with the company and wanted to work with me to make me happy. I certainly apppreciated the way they conducted themselves.

I didn't even have to haggle, threaten to quit etc. I just asked what the price was, 299.94, and if there were any discounts available to me. Immediately it went to the $179.94. Took 5 minutes to save the $120. Thanks TBD!

Just ordered my sunday ticket. Asked for the special offers department. The ticket cost $320, but they gave me $20 off my monthly service for six months. So with that savings of $120, the sunday ticket will cost me $200. I asked for the $179 deal, but they said that was the only offer they had at the moment.

 

The reason I chose to post this is to let everyone know that Directv is turning the Sunday Ticket on for ALL customers on Sunday,September 12. So for those of you who have never had it, and may be considering it, this is a good opportunity to preview it.
