Alaska Darin Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I guess I just disagree:__________________ Mike Vanderjagt: 182-209 for 87.1% Adam Vinatieri: 240-292 for 82% So let me get this straight. He is "clutch its ridiculous" , yet in a 9 year career Adam Vinatieri has missed 52 field goals. Mike Vanderjagt in a 7 year career has missed only 27 field goals. 141774 KICKS IN A DOME. KICKS IN A DOME. KICKS IN A DOME. You catching any of that? On turf. In a dome. At least half of each game. No precipitation, no wind, solid footing. He's had to kick ONE clutch FG this season. Opening Monday Night. On the road. Against the Patriots. 48 yards. He missed it. Badly. This after gesturing at the Pats' sideline. Meanwhile, AV is the only kicker in NFL history to kick a winning FG in the final minute of the Super Bowl. And he's done it TWICE. You're one defensive dude.
Pete Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Peterson tore an achilles. I'm pretty sure he is a free agent again this offseason. The Niners are still cap-screwed, Peterson is coming off a "worse than ACL" injury, and they might want to use up that cap space to bury some of that dead money. Five years ago, he might have been potential bargain on the FA market, but nowadays, somebody desperate will probably throw healthy money at him(Chiefs?). Has anyone ever come back all the way from an achilles? I know Marino limped his career out after his and Sam Cowart has certainly never been as agile again. 141358 That is too bad about his achilles. He is a Superstar that very few know about because he plays on the worst team in the NFL. If he blitzed all the time he would have 20+ sacks. He is the most gifted cover linebacker in the history of the NFL though. Julian would line up at DE, at OLB, at ILB, S and at CB in the same game! What other athlete in NFL history could play DE and CB?
Astrobot Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I really considered a big ol' O-Lineman when I picked Peppers: 1a) Jonathan Ogden1b) Orlando Pace 1c) Walter Jones and one of those would be my 2nd choice after Peppers. HOWEVER, NONE of the three are on a top 5 offense in time of possession! Those teams are Indy, KC, Green Bay, Minnesota and Denver. Pace is on the #6 team, and he's the only one in the top 8. I think line chemistry needs time to develop, and Mouse McNally is getting it done despite Mike Williams' late start, and the minor injuries so far. And just think--Peppers would even be better on the Bills b/c of Williams-Adams in the middle!! What one guy are you going to double cover? Plus, you'd have Schobel-Kelsay-Denney-Peppers giving each other a breather (I can't bring myself to say giving each other a blow). If you take 6 guys (TE or RB or both) to cover our 4 DL's who's going out in a pattern?

OnTheRocks Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 100% correct ... anyone who doesnt pick Manning is just being stupid to say "hey, look at me" or is just insane. 141777 i disagree 100%. Look....Manning is a great QB. But this isn't about having the best QB, it is about winning a Super Bowl. The Redskins won Super Bowls with Thiesman, Rypien, and Doug Williams. The Dolphins won with Bob Griese. The Ravens won with Dilfer. The Giants won with Hostetler. Non of these guys were Great QB's. But they all had GREAT Offensive Linemen.

So you wanna get ONE good offensive lineman? No - I take Manning any day.
OnTheRocks Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 And your point is? 141911 the point is you can win a Super Bowl with an avg. QB and a great OL. but not neccessarily with a great QB and an avg. OL. do you need me to draw pictures?
