TC in St. Louis Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Jim Kelly spoke at the commencement at NCCC, and thinks that Niagara Falls would be a good spot for a new stadium. "They have the seventh wonder of the world, casinos, ...." I didn't know they ranked them, but in a way it makes sense that the city of Niagara Falls contains the actual Niagara Falls itself. Otherwise, they might have called the town Casinos or "shut down Plant" I actually grew up in Pekin, a suburb of Sanborn, home of NCCC. We're talkin' proud.
John Adams Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 The wonders are just lists people put together. There's no official list. I could make a list of wonders and publish it and it would be John Adams's Wonders of the World. The Falls is not on many of those lists but it is on some.
Nanker Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Seriously, you've never heard of "the seven wonders of the world"? Shocking. Oh, and sorry Jimbo, Niagra Falls isn't one of them.
Pondslider Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Most of the time Kelly is talking about the team he's talking out of his ass. I'm not saying he doesn't mean well, but I'm getting a little sick of hearing from ex-players about the state of the franchise. Darryl Talley's drunken tweets are one thing, but until Kelly's "ownership group" or whatever steps up and does something I don't really care what he says publicly.
Just Jack Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 When people mention the Seven Wonders Of The World, they are usually unknowingly thinking of the Seven Wonders Of The Ancient World that they heard about in school. As John Adams pointed out, there have been other lists. Here'a a Wiki article.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonders_of_the_World
Lurker Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 The Falls is not on many of those lists but it is on some. Not many, apparently...

If he and some of the other players didn't party so damn much before the Super Bowls then perhaps we could have won one of them too.
TC in St. Louis Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 Niagara Falls is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. I was musing on his wording, that it is the "seventh." And that it's fortunate that the Falls are part of the city. Sort of the same way that Lou Gehrig died of Lou Gehrig's disease. What a coincidence that Niagara Falls contains Niagara Falls.
Arkady Renko Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I think he meant "eighth wonder of the world," as that phrase is typically used.
Pondslider Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I think he meant "eighth wonder of the world," as that phrase is typically used. Isn't that Kong?
uforesircher Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Seriously, you've never heard of "the seven wonders of the world"?Shocking. Oh, and sorry Jimbo, Niagra Falls isn't one of them. yep you are 100% correct. in fact, niagara falls is not on the ancient 7 wonders of the world list nor the modern 7 wonders of the world list.
yungmack Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Niagara Falls was once (and perhaps still is...I'm too lazy to look it up) on the Seven Wonders of the Natural World listing. But that was in the 19th and early 20th century. So was the Grand Canyon. I think Victoria Falls and/or Iguacu Falls have replaced it.

John Adams Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 There is no official "list." There are hundreds of "wonders" lists. The Falls are not on most of them. Not that it matters. It's a neat natural wonder, augmented by drunks, casinos, and wax museums.
Meathead Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 i love that maid of the mist ride. its so awesome being at the bottom of the falls looking up, just majestic i like taking people on it for the first time. sometimes they love it, sometimes they cower in fear. i had one huge macho guy friend nearly in tears at the back of the boat once lmao but true
PromoTheRobot Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 To call something an "Eighth Wonder" is to play off the "Seven Wonders" list that date back to the 19th century. Kind of like calling fans "the 12th man." Personally I think Kelly is talking out his butt when he talks about putting an ownership group together to buy the Bills. I hope I'm wrong but I don't believe he knows enough wealthy people to do it, and Jimbo doesn't exactly possess the business acumen to operate a billion-dollar-plus enterprise like an NFL team, much less a downtown nightclub and restaurant. However I think Jim is spot-on about putting a new Bills stadium in Niagara Falls. It's a no-brainer. The NFL is all about glitz and entertainment these days. Look at Patriot* Place in Foxboro. If you can build an entertainment complex around a stadium you can make game days into a bigger (read: money-making) event. And when you add a natural wonder like the Falls, not to mention the Canadian side attractions, and the fact that you are 30 miles closer to Toronto, that's a powerful combination. You build it and I guarantee the Falls hosts a Super Bowl (assuming it's a dome, that is.) PTR
Beerball Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I rate the fact that NG is still married as the 27th wonder of the world. He's a real mean son of a B word.

I think they should rank "bootys" of the world...
Phil Hansen Forever Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 According to the Seven Wonders of North America, it's rated #1. But then again, overall it's not listed. Link And for the really bored, it is listed as #9 on the top 10 natural wonders of the world. Linky
