Steely Dan Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Assistant coaches eye unionizing By Mike Sando ESPN.com The NFL could always count on its assistant coaches to show up for work no matter how rocky labor relations became between the league and its players. That could be changing. The NFL Coaches Association, upset about benefits changes and the manner in which the league implemented those changes, is considering unionizing. “All we have said is, 'Treat us with respect and dignity because we treat the game with respect and we want you to treat us the same,' and they haven't in any of us." -- Larry Kennan, executive director of the NFL Coaches Association The association sent a letter Tuesday to its team representatives and NFL head coaches apprising them of the development. Well that could make things more interesting.

Thunderstealer Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 A little different situation from my friends at the bread factory fighting for piddly retirement and prescripion drug coverage. Pat Ewing said "Yeah, we players make a lot of money, but we spend a lot of money too." These assistant coaches here feel the same way.
Nanker Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 There's a lot of money in this sport. I know the ACs got screwed last year - or "potentially" got screwed. It's one more reason for a rookie salary cap IMO. Teams waste a ton of dough on new wunderkinds every year that would be better spent on current productive players and retired players. I'd put the ACs in that mix too.
