Over 29 years of fanhood Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 A little premature to make this call. We will see what happens in camp and preseason, he certainly could be on the bubble if the younger vets and rooks perform in thier scheme... All depends on how he fits into the "master plan"
Mr. WEO Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I think Roscoe is a lock because of his versatility and experience. He's not a liability out there -- I honestly believe our prior coaching staff just didn't know how to use him. They had him as apunt returner. That's what he was good at. As a receiver, he's not good. He can't avoid a tackle unless, like in punt returns, he gets about 10-15 yards before the first contact.
Poeticlaw Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 To me he's excess baggage and easily replaced, but according to Rodney McKissic he is a lock to make the team. penultimate paragraph I do not believe roscoe is a lock. If you look at who the bills have been bringing in the all have returning experience and would come cheaper then roscoe. He hasnt shown much in the stats or attitude I anticipate a trade or a cut before the end of the preseason.
In-A-Gadda-Levitre Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Anyone know what Roscoe's salary is for this season? I think his stats have tailed off, but then so have just about everyone's except for maybe Freddie. What is the status of Roscoe's contract? Rotoworld reports he's scheduled to make $1.025M + $500K roster bonus this season. 12/14/2007: Signed a three-year, $12.31 million contract extension through 2011. The deal included a $1.1 million signing bonus and another $3.25 million "signing bonus" in the second year. 2009: $1 million (+ $1.5 million "signing" bonus + $500,000 roster bonus), 2010-2011: $1.025 million (+ $500,000 roster bonuses), 2012: Free Agent
BuffaloBill Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I think he is not a lock to not get cut. had to think about this for a second
nana Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 To me he's excess baggage and easily replaced, but according to Rodney McKissic he is a lock to make the team. penultimate paragraph I think "Scoe" still has blazing speed and can still take it to the house on punt returns.
Steely Dan Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 To me he's excess baggage and easily replaced, but according to Rodney McKissic he is a lock to make the team. penultimate paragraph Indeed with the departure of Josh Reed and Terrell Owens, there's a chance for Roosevelt and other young receivers to make the roster. Veterans Lee Evans, James Hardy, Roscoe Parrish and Stevie Johnson are considered locks to make the team as is fourth-round draft pick Marcus Easley from Connecticut. Roosevelt must emerge from a group that includes Chad Jackson, David Nelson, Felton Huggins and Donald Jones. Only Jackson has played more than two seasons in the league. I think the receiving corp will be; Evans, Hardy, Johnson and Easley. Parrish is a 75% chance of making the team. Chad Jackson, Felton Huggins are cuts. David Nelson, Donald Jones or Naaman Roosevelt will make the team and the other two will be practice squad guys. JMO I think Evans is the only vet lock to make the team, everybody else has proved nothing, they better show up in camp & pre-season. Doubt Easley will get cut regardless unless he's a total disaster, doesn't look like one so far. Hardy hasn't had an opportunity to show his stuff yet. Unless he's a total failure he's gonna make the team. Johnson will make the team he is more than good enough. Even if Easley isn't that good in preseason he's a lock to make the team because he's only had one good year in college and is viewed as a developmental project who'd too good to PS. If anyone can figure out a way to make Parrish an asset Gailey can. If Roscoe can handle the plays he's gonna make the team. Instead of being cut he should at least fetch a 7th rounder and Evans is an obvious lock. JMO I think Roscoe is a lock because of his versatility and experience. He's not a liability out there -- I honestly believe our prior coaching staff just didn't know how to use him. Wow, the word "penultimate" used correctly. A rare thing.Roscoe might sneak onto the roster, but I doubt it. What's really mind blowing is that DB is the one who used it correctly! As BuffBill stated, Chan is looking for big guys at WR and Parrish was routinely knocked off patterns. His route running has been questioned as well. We've seen absolutely nothing from Hardy to date that would even remotely suggest he's ready to break out/contribute and Easley would have to be a complete wash out to not make the team. IMO, only Evans & S.Johnson are 'locks' at this point. 'Rosey' has all the cred we've seen from the regimes' first draft: team record holder, leader, injury free and huge production. "Roosevelt must emerge from a group that includes Chad Jackson, David Nelson, Felton Huggins and Donald Jones. Only Jackson has played more than two seasons in the league." Since this is his criteria, I like his chances. (lack of blazing speed notwithstanding) BTW, how cool would it be to root for a local boy at the NFL level? Having Corto and Roosevelt would be pretty cool.
CountDorkula Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I doubt roscoe makes the team, he just hasnt been able to get on the field consistently and I doubt that will change with Chan & Co. Good Luck in your Future Endeavors roscoe Im not so sure, Gailey said he wanted a water bug type player, thats exactly what Roscoe is. Hell who knows maybe this staff can actually use the players on this team to their advantage... had to think about this for a second You, I'm still thinking about it...
DrFishfinder Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Rotoworld reports he's scheduled to make $1.025M + $500K roster bonus this season. Not a big hit money-wise. If he can break some kickoff & punt returns & help win some games, it'll be well worth it. Don't see him being used too much as a WR.
eball Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Its lines like this that get me started - people continue to throw out the excuse "the coaches don't know how to use him." He is a liability for a couple of reasons - one, (I do not mean this as harshly as it sounds) he does not have the brains to play in a complicated system. Two, with his size he is easily knocked down or jamed at the line. They guy was - last year's play specifically puts this in past tense - a very good punt returner. He is a one role player and he needs to go. Also keep in mind Gailey said he wants bigger bodied wide receivers. Give me one example of a good offensive coaching move during the Jauron tenure, besides giving Fred the ball.
Bufcomments Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Roscoe like Trent Edwards has one more chance to prove himself. I think he was glad to see Jauron go more than anybody else. That said, I think he has been put in the doghouse for one fumble. I think he is still dangerous as a punt returner. Why use Spiller back there if you don't have to?? I think Hardy has more to prove than Roscoe at this point. Hardy has done nothing outside that catch in Jacksonville while Roscoe has done way more for the Bills. I think whoever has the worse training camp will get cut. Evans, Johnson, Easly are locks. Roosevelt has a chance , along with Jackson.
eball Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Also keep in mind Gailey said he wants bigger bodied wide receivers. This is not a statement aimed at a 3rd or 4th wideout in a spread set. That's where Roscoe would be used by a competent or creative coach. I'd bet dollars to donuts Gailey finds a way to use Roscoe's explosiveness a couple of times a game. Nobody's expecting him to become a 50+ catch guy.
silvermike Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I don't see Roscoe as a lock to make the team. He's a player who has some unexplored potential, and this coaching staff is going to get a solid six weeks this summer to explore it. If he's a victim of Jauron/Mularkey, then he deserves another chance. If Bobby April got all that could be gotten out of him, then so long, sucker.
KD in CA Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I think Roscoe is a lock because of his versatility and experience. He's not a liability out there -- I honestly believe our prior coaching staff just didn't know how to use him. Missed the Cleveland game last year, huh? If this coaching staff really wants to get off on the right foot, cutting worthless losers like Parrish should be near the top of the list.
BuffaloBill Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 This is not a statement aimed at a 3rd or 4th wideout in a spread set. That's where Roscoe would be used by a competent or creative coach. I'd bet dollars to donuts Gailey finds a way to use Roscoe's explosiveness a couple of times a game. Nobody's expecting him to become a 50+ catch guy. Will you please simply look at his stats ... where do they say this guy has an ounce of success as a WR in the NFL? How about the fact no team in the league is dying to get the guy on their roster. If he was good he would find a way to get open and stay on the field. The stats do not lie the guy is a joke as a WR.
silvermike Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Given the soft market, I wouldn't be shocked if the Bills brought back Josh Reed and cut Roscoe, should they decide that Johnson and Hardy aren't ready for the #2 and #3 jobs.
FitzShowUsYourTitz Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Is Roscoe a lock to make the team? Interesting question? The first thing I thought of with the Simpson signing today was: Is Roscoe Parrish on his way out?? Curious you wrote that today. We'll see soon enough. Maybe he is traded...or packaged in a trade.
billsfreak Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 To me he's excess baggage and easily replaced, but according to Rodney McKissic he is a lock to make the team. penultimate paragraph No way he gets cut, he is too talented. If he isn't on the opening day roster it is because he was traded. He is probably tied for the second best receiver on the team behind Lee Evans, and tied with about 4 other guys.
Magox Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I've been a critic of Roscoe over the years, however considering that we have Gailey running the show, who probably is the best offensive minded coach we've had in a while and his reputation for being able to effectively utilize his players in creative ways, I would say that it would make sense to give him one more opportunity with the Bills and see if he could live up to his potential (outside of being a ST).
