Fifth round pick? Why is he any better than what we have?

What does being a fifth round pick have to do with anything? Jason Peters was undrafted. Players do develop after college. The problem here is playing only 11 of 16 games and having to see a foot specialist. Does not bode well for a big trade right now unless the Bills want to incur a huge injury risk.

Actually, he was a 5th round pick after his sophomore season in the supplemental draft in the summer of '07, which he declared for after being determined 'academically ineligible' to play at Maryland in the 2007 season. Ranked #7 at the time among OTs by The Sporting News, chances are he would have gone much higher in the following season's regular draft had he continued his college career.

I'm sure the Bills will want to be satisfied about his foot and his 2009 neck injury before making any trade, but his talent is not in question.

Don't touch this guy with 10-foot pole. They'll cut him soon and then we can gim him a chance.

Not a chance they'll cut him at a 2010 salary of $2.3 million...

Foot problems are a bear. I'm the middle of recovering from foot surgery now and it takes forever to be able to use it like you used to. No clue what injury Gaither has but the pounding your feet take at LT has got to be brutal.

I think this injury report will be a good excuse as any for the FO to stay away from Gaither. I think Buddy believes that Wang and Bell can do the job and he won't sink a ton of money or give away high picks for a top performer now. This is a rebuilding year and that's what we have to all understand - like it or not.

Last line of the article sums all this bullschitt up.

"the Ravens haven't initiated trade talks, nor received any offers tempting enough to move Gaither. As for the trade rumors, The Buffalo News reported Saturday that the Bills are being mentioned as the team most likely to land the former fifth-round draft pick."

Rumor and speculation by absolutely no one with any credibility. It seems whenever a young, barely adequate LT, hits free agency (restricted or unrestricted), they are over valued by their agent... who is probably the one behind the rumors. His player can't be moved or marketed on merit... so he has to revert to the old smoke and mirror crap.

Thank God the Bills ain't stupid enough to even engage in conversation about aquiring this lazy bastard.

DARN RIGHT!!

We should be happy with the lazy bastards presently on the roster!

Well, it seems like he is developing a chronic foot injury and according to some, is a "malcontent", so they may cut him. Why is one of the best talent evaluators in NFL so anxious to dump a young, talented, cheap LT? Seems to me like he can be a good RT or insurance if Oher goes down. Why run him out of town? I think we are beginning to see why. If I was Nix, I'd like to see how he "performs" in his OTAs before pulling the trigger.

Where are you getting chronic from? And the malcontent thing is a media snowball, IMO. No chance he gets cut.

Because after this year he's a FA and the Ravens will get nothing for him other than a 2012 compensitory pick. They've got their OLT in Oher and aren't going to pay two guys LT money.

For the same reason nobody likes earning 0.2% on their savings account. Gaither is an asset that can be leveraged into a higher return by getting a player or draft choice that can potentially play for the Ravens for many years. Ozzie's not just going to throw away that opportunity.

OTA's are guys running around in their underware. I'm sure Whaley's watched film of every play he's had over the past two years, if the Bills truely are interested in him.
