More news on left tackles

Recommended Posts

Firstly, this is not one of those threads evoked by the availability of a player with name recognition.

It is a thread borne out of the reality that though many of us approve of the off-season so far, the reality exists that the Bills simply do not have a solid answer at the important left tackle position.

That said, there's a deal in the works involving Alex Barron. He is a left tackle, who was drafted 19th overall in 2005. He has been a disappointment so far but if he could be acquired cheaply…he could at least be added to the mix.

True. But at least some team is gonna get Barron on the cheap instead of having drafted him in the 1st round.

The guy is still young and MAYBE his problem with false starts could be corrected.

So far from last year's first round tackle class, Michael Oher played very well on the right side and pretty poorly on the left side, Eugene Monroe, Jason Smith, and Andre Smith all had mildly disappointing rookie seasons…none of them conclusively proved anything.

So the idea of getting a person cheaply who has a big upside is appealing.

they are trading a 1st round bust for another 1st round bust.

That is true, if the trade goes down.

As said earlier, if a guy comes cheaply and can be added to the mix…what's there to lose? Unless robbing valuable reps from a guy you know is your starter.

But isn't it quite possible that Barron would be a better alternative than Demetrius Bell?

Here's some more interesting back story on Barron:

I have seen enough of Barron to say lets stick with Bell.

Talk about trading garbage for garbage. Carpenter is called Barbie because of the way he plays. And trading a former 1st round LT only 5 years in speaks volumes. I guess I;d favor the Cowboys because Carpenter is complete garbage and he is a OL.
