I love me some bash TE threads.

and without the ever so popular Captain Checkdown/ Glove wearing Mary, there could be no TE bashing :worthy:

You hit the nail on the head Biscuit, loyalty sunk the ship for DJ, or lack there of, ( as seen from a different view if your standing in Turk Shonerts shoes)

Normally the GM would have helped handle finding a replacement properly, something we didn't even have, except more as a figurehead in Russ Brandon.

Did I hear you mention not enough Gunslinger Biscuit, :worthy:

NFL QB (TE) vs. fastest known Gunslinger in the world

Yeah, I was the last Jauron defenders ever and still don't think he is as bad as he is made out to be. But the idea of never getting an experienced OC to run the offense drove me crazy. Both your QBs and OC shouldn't be learning on the job together.

I did not notice who it was posted by. To me what is important is the statistical proof of what we have been claiming for a long time. I wonder if this statistical proof will be enough to finally sway the supporters that did not believe that Trent was actually this bad. Everything about him that some have pointed to as a positive when really analyzed is a negative, especially things like his completion percentage.

I am tired of hearing about how bad a QB Trent is! Peyton Manning would have been awful to if he was playing for Jaron. The previous coaching staff is where the blame should lie. Lets give this kid another try with a coaching staff that knows how to run a professional football team!!!!! I truly believe Trent has what it takes to win, he just needs a little bit of coaching. So rather than bash him and run him out of town how about we as Bills fans give the guy and the team the support they need to change things around! Bill Walsh who knew a few things about QB's thought Trent was the real deal!

I looked up Trents stats on CBSsports.com and here is what I got.

CAT G Att Comp Pct Yds YPA Lg TD Int 1st 1st % 20+ Sac Rate

ATTEMPTS 1-THROUGH-10 0 67 39 58.2 387 5.78 39 2 1 18 46.2 4 0 78.4

ATTEMPTS 11-THROUGH-20 0 60 40 66.7 435 7.25 46 2 1 19 47.5 6 0 92.0

ATTEMPTS 21-THROUGH-30 0 49 26 53.1 267 5.45 37 1 5 15 57.7 3 0 36.2

ATTEMPTS 31+ 0 7 5 71.4 80 11.43 43 1 0 1 20.0 1 0 148.8

They aren't coming out right no matter how I adjust them in this post, just read them on the link and notice he threw 7 passes for more then +31 yards, completed 5 and one was a TD. Now go back and re watch the games and count the seconds for each passing play. I'll bet he had 3 seconds or less on most passing plays when he was behind center, kinda tough to throw when you take a 5 step drop and meet both DE's when you reach the 5th step.

Notice the last sentence...

With an offensive line still in tatters, Spiller still might be able to jitter his way to extra yardage on passes out of the backfield.

The 1-10, 11-20, etc. isn't yardage. That's breaking down his stats for the first through tenth attempt in each game, eleventh through twentieth, and so on. Take a look at the 31+ line: 5-for-7, but only one was for 20+ yards. His true long-pass completion stats, available on his main profile page: 14 for 20+, two for 40+.

Let's see. How about we start with he's an arrogant prick and he sucks. How's that? :worthy:

I've met him before and he was real cool. But to each his own. I hope you didn't met a young Jim Kelly or Big Ben because I can't imagine how terrible they must be if you think Trent is a prick.

Met him as well and didn't come close to coming off as arrogant or a prick.

Unless you lived under a rock last year or are a family member we all knew that Trent didn't have the arm or the stones to throw the ball down field. ESPN has confirmed what we already knew. Trent threw just over 1% of his passes over 40yds in the air and 25% of his passes BEHIND the line of scrimmage.

Don't give me the BS about the short passing game can work, and there are a tiny handful of weak armed QBs that have had success in this league blah blah blah. Without the threat of the deep pass the short game gets crushed. I hope that Gailey gets this concept. Personally I was tired of watching passes out to the RBs in the flat and defenders being on them before the ball even got there. WHY? Because they knew that Trent couldn't go deep effectively.

Peyton Manning would have locked Jauron in a closet before kickoff, and if that did not work he would have fired him personally. Take that to the bank.

Trent Edwards has a quiet confidence about himself and is a very goal oriented individual in my opinion.

When TE says he wants to bring home a Championship to Buffalo, he believes in his mind with hard work and conviction he can make it happen.

I believe Trent Edwards/Captain Checkdown and his trusty new sidekick Lightning28 can make it happen...

Trent has been through the "perfect storm" of scenarios after taking too many hits (two concussions in two years), poor coaching and not much quality on the OL.

Really if the all the Bills wanted to do was to throw 10 yard passes, they should have drafted more help on the lines instead of QBs and kept Kelly Holcomb.

If Trent wins the starting job; checking down to Spiller vs. Jackson will be an entirely different situation for us and the defense. You best know where Spiller is as a defense. If Jackson swings out, as a defense you feel like you can react and close, if Spiller swings out you better get out there before the decision is made to go to him. This can create a major issue for defenses.

In the spread, Spiller is going to be used as the Cutterback. Which means he will be lining up all over the place, and be in motion a lot. He'll be used as a weapon and a decoy.

He's going to help out whoever the Bills decide to play at QB, which I think will be Edwards.

Fitz didn't seem to have any issues getting the ball down the field, to the sidelines, and to targets other then the RB. Granted they were ugly, but he was able to throw the ball and avoid sacks. So we can blame the Oline to an extent but it still comes back to Edwards refusal or inability to do much of anything besides checkdown or get sacked.

Can't argue that. The guy never went downfield. The only question is whether Chan can resurrect him.

I agree, with an athlete like CJ Spiller on the football field that can take it to the house on any given play, especially utilized as a 3rd down specialist, it actually helps the offense run or pass because you have to respect what Spiller can do to you.

If you would give the ball to Fred Jackson on 1st down, Beast mode on 2nd, and CJ Spiller on 3rd, even with an average O-line your going to get 1st downs.

Exactly, if Spiller is lined up in the slot, but off the line of scrimmage and either runs a route to the outside or goes in motion, bang the slant or cross is going to be open because the LB is going to have to move.

CJ Spillers running/receiving/ Special teams skills represents all kinds of problems for the opposing defenses/ Special teams. The kids lightning fast and very dangerous, he averaged over a TD a game through college and if you were to give the Bills an extra TD for every game we played over the last three years we might have made the playoffs by now.

We need big Play makers to win in this league, its not the first time we've heard it, Thurman Thomas has been preaching it forever, and CJ Spiller is a scoring machine.

Like many others, you seem to think this team is worse than it was last year. I don't minimize the problems they face, but I can't help but think, rationally, that they will be better. Because:

I think it is better off without Dickhead Jauron, I don't think it is better off without Perry Fewell or Bobby April. IF Chan Gailey can turn this team around without a premier LT or even a decent RT then I applaud him, I simply just don't see it.

1) the switch to the 3/4 defense, with the new players they have drafted and brought in, promises to make them stronger against the run. They already have a strong secondary. Goodbye to the Tampa 2.

Yea, I'm very happy to be finally dumping the Tampax 2, I have a deep dislike of that defense for years and have stated so many times on this board. The team will not only need to retrain all the players to the new 3-4 defense, they will need to train the coaches as well. I just don't see a strong defense this season.

2) Last season the team as a whole, and especially the o-line, suffered an inordinate number of injuries. They have a new conditioning coach, and even if they did not I think the law of averages says they would not see so many players lost to injury this year.

3) the o-line last year was actually decent in run blocking; they averaged 4.3 yards per carry, and this despite the "popgun" passing game that scared nobody. If they stay healthy and the young players develop, I think they will overall do better. Not great, but better. Better enough to make a difference in offensive efficiency. Injuries aside, even if the entire line plays all 16 games I honestly think they will still stink because the talent level just isn't there. Give them 1/2 a season and see if I'm wrong, I honestly hope I am wrong.

4) Add to this the change in coaching staff. The Bills offensive coaching under Jauron was very bad, and last season was the worst for that. I expect Gailey to do better. It would be hard for the passing offense to be worse.

I agree, the offensive coaching has been mostly horrid for the last 4 years. He started off that first year in the right direction, then left to his own devices and promoting from within instead of hiring experienced veteran NFL coaches the offense went downhill. Gailey will improve the offense, but then again he will need to train his coaches as well as all the players to fit his new system.

5) Despite the team's awful play last year, the Bills split with New York and Miami last season, played the Jets close in the other game, and played New England close in both games.

I credit Perry Fewell with improving the run defense and winning more games then Jauron would have had he not been fired. Understand that his players really played tough and tried their best, and if his schemes weren't so inept he would have won more games.

6) many times last season they led games going into the last quarter, only to lose. Mostly because the defense was not big enough to get off the field--how many times did we painfully watch other teams grind out long drives, converting third downs one after another. And the offense could not sustain drives. Given the changes already listed, why should they do WORSE this season than last?

Because the team is being completely retooled in both offense and defense, new schemes that both the offensive and defensive players AND coaches will need to learn. Had Gailey gone out and hired known seasoned veteran NFL coaches at all the assistant positions then I would think he could turn it around in one year, this is going to take time.

7) I cannot understand on what basis "NFL experts" call for the Bills to win only 2-4 games. When the schedule is weaker on paper. They, like you, can only look at the LT and the QB and assume that because they have not new or impressive names in those positions, the entire season is lost. I just do not agree.

Time will tell, I have my opinion and you are certainly entitled to yours

Actually, this is a new subject -- Matt Williamson's take on how Spiller will help Edwards (or whoever the Bills QB ends up being). You can't tell by the original post, which never even mentions No. 21, but the title of the story is "Captain Checkdown has sidekick in Spiller."

hi lori, sorry we missed you last month - the wife and i were looking forward to it - perhaps another time

but on to the reason for the post - first i am not a te fan - but when a national sports reporter demeans (and captain checkdown is demeaning and insulting) a professional athelete it makes me wonder about that reporter's professionalism and motivation for such a negative act of blantant name-calling. we all know where and how that nickname came about but what we dont know is what he was instructed to do by the qb coach/oc and/or hc both of which were did not exhibit good communications and were out of their league imo.
