San Jose Bills Fan Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Bill Polian and John Butler supplied Jimbo with a Hall of Fame coach, a Hall of Fame running back and a Hall of Fame defensive end - and more Hall of Famers to come from his era! And lets' not forget another Hall of Fame reciever who spent the last 5 years catching balls from Jimbo - James Lofton! I agree... minor detail is that Bruce was actually drafted in 1985, Terry Bledsoe was GM. Hmmm...If I remember correctly, GM Terry Bledsoe had a major heart attack in February 1985, two months before the draft. Bill Polian and Norm Pollom identified Bruce Smith as the player they wanted and signed him two months before the actual draft. They had a one-week window to sign Bruce as he said if the offer wasn't good enough that he would sign with the USFL. Even though Polian wasn't named GM until December 1985, he took the reigns in February of that year and I believe (along with Pollom) is credited with the entire 1985 draft, including Bruce Smith.
