Rockinon Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Man, he looked good against North dakota tech and Wyoming central state! Looks like you finally got your wish. Back to back pass rushing OLBs.
Ghost of Rob Johnson Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Attached is an excerpt about Danny's Pro chances from the Sporting News. "South Dakota State DE Danny Batten is a small-school prospect who is causing a lot of chatter. Batten (6'2 3/4, 24) has been impressive with his ability to impact games rushing the passer, chasing down running plays and making plays when dropping into coverage. Batten plays with great passion and could be an ideal development prospect with the potential to become a starter. Batten could become a mid-round pick if he performs well at the postseason all-star games against improved competition. Makes sense to take a late round flyer on him then. Worst case he's a special teamer, best case he contributes on defense.
Kingfish Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 looks like they have been doing their homework... I like it. I'd rather take a chance on a player who dominated a lesser level of competition than a player who played tougher competition but didn't separate himself from the rest.
UConn James Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 FWIW, CBS projects him as an ILB. Also, FWIW, he's got better numbers in the 3-cone and shuttle drills than McClain, et al. Some people find themselves amazed when, every year, LBs go down with injuries and a team falls apart b/c there's crap for depth. LB is a position where depth is EVERYTHING. There will be injuries and your second-tier guys'd better be good b/c the odds are excellent that they will be playing at some point. Bear in mind that we'll have 4 starters at LB now. That puts an onus on having more LBs in the first place. And after the Jauron years, we need to get bigger at LB and these last couple of picks are a nice hedge if one or two of the DE-to-LB conversions doesn't work out.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Danny "Master" Batten Danny "Mount" Batten
kasper13 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Christmas analogy: Spiller was the shiny, new toy and eveything else turned out to be socks and underwear. Everything the Bills have done is for beyond 2010. All projects, works in progress and untapped potential in rounds 2-7. 3 DE's??? Jeez. Good for Batten. Getting drafted by an alleged NFL team has to be a big thrill. South Dakota State was dominant in the Cereal Bowl, the Beef Bowl and on Hobo Day last year. Not kidding. Look at their website. Anyone wants to spin it as a good pick for the Bills, go ahead. Anyone after round 5 is a longshot anyway. Except for Tom Brady. Batten will be among the first cuts in late August.
Mike in Syracuse Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 http://www.nfldraftbible.com/Small-School-...ard_update.html Nfl Draft Bible has Danny rated as the 10th best small school prospect. Yeah but what do those rednecks know! Small school guys never succeed in the NFL!
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 FWIW (not much, admittedly) he has nice measurables. Good size, speed, quickness, agility, explosiveness: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1278737 Dominated his level of competition, another team captain (how many is that now?). Love the pick.
tonyd19 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 The guy looks pretty legit to me. Seems like a good pick for a 6th rounder.
Chicken Wing '73 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Looks very Bruschi like. Maybe it's the number...
John Cocktosten Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Just like DeMarcus Ware looked good against Middle Tennessee State Troy plays D1 and is a haven for D1 non qualifiers in the south and plays in D1 bowl games. SDST were Great West Football Conference champs in '07.

thebug Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 get in line... I've got a live one all to myself. After you, sir.
Nanker Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Lord Batten could give Error Maybe a pink slip or at least an extended ride on the pine bench.
nucci Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Lol, a DE from South Dakota State instead of Tony Pike. These rednecks in charge are hilariously out of touch. What does it say to you that Pike is still available? This is getting hilarious. Just criticize every pick no matter what.
