KD in CA
The exact count of the vote — 136 to 70 —had town officials hitting their calculators yesterday. The zoning measure needed a two-thirds vote to pass. A calculation by town accountant Trudy Brazil indicated that 136 votes are two-thirds of 206 total votes, said Town Clerk Cynthia Slade. Brazil said she used the calculation of .66 multiplied by 206 to obtain the number. Gee, imagine that, a gov't employee that can't do math. Sorry Cynthia, .66 is not two-thirds. Even if people do round that fraction to two decimal places, .67 would be the correct figure to use. 206 * .6666666 = 137.xx Or, 136/206 = .6602 which is < .6666 That this is even a point of discussion is a sad commentary on the intelligence of Americans. Un!@#$ing real isn't it? Maybe she could use a lesson in the common denominator between 136/206 and 2/3 if your calculation thing doesn't work. Stupid Stupid Stupid.
