Is Aaron Schobel starting to

Recommended Posts

Not a question about being pissed off or not the question is does he have any value on a 3-4 defense- at his age I see his greatest value as being a pass rush specialist on a 4-3 team that wants to win right now and does not care too much about the future. on a 3-4 defense he's an OLB a position I'm not sure he can play- I think he'd like the Bills to cut him so he could sign a two year deal with the Texans.

I understand that family is very very important, but if he really is on;y going to play for the Bills if he continues, shouldn;t he inform that team BEFORE the draft of his intentions. COme Aaron, who do you think you are? Brett Favre?

It is kind of disheartening & i can understand the Bills wanting to give him the time he needs out of respect for what he has done for the organization, but it has to be a mutual respect . This guy stands to take a bunch of money from the Bills which could possibly be put to good use towards another player or 2 . I just wish he would communicate more with the Bills . Of coarse there may be something to what another post reply mentioned that the Bills may already know what he is doing & they just don't want to tip there hand until the draft , there may be a trade that they are planning on using to our advantage on draft week end ??? Man do i feel like a mushroom !!

In answer to the original question, my answer is NO.

Pass rusher was a need last year, it remains a need this year. The Bills remain deficient in this area.

We will have to replace Schobel either immediately or next year. Our short and long-term needs remain the same.

Even if he plays this year, there's no assurance that he will play well as an outside linebacker.

Because of all of the above, we have to draft a pass rusher this year, regardless of Aaron Schobel.

And with the 11th pick in the draft, wasn't Maybin the Schobel replacement pick made last year?

He always seems to come off as a real prick. I think he going to keep this up till July just so he can get out of the OTA's. I really think that is what this all about.

Yeah his time is up. Time to move on. Changing to a 3-4 outside backer at this point in his career is not good for him or us. Really how many years has he have left ? Thanks for the memories.

It's been my thought from the beginning that the Bills might try to work a trade---that's why it is so quiet. I'll be it is resolved one way or the other near or after the draft.

Hopefully, the Bills know who they have and who they need by now or they should have just kept the DJ crew.

Why the guy is good at stopping the run too. Looking at last year, he is not reduced to being a specialist yet.

Im not a big Ralph fan , but Ralph brought in Nix and Gailey, which seems a decent attempt to become more competitive. He ate the last few years of Jaurons contract to do it which shows the old man isn't a complete cheapass. Do you say they arent trying to be competitive because they didn't sign one of the few big name free agents out there this year?

Don't confuse another AFC team signing a big name player as being bad for the Bills. Sometimes big name players hurt a team more in lost picks, less cap room, etc. Ask the Redskins how many of their countless big name signings helped them win games. Ask the Bears front office how limited the team's options are now that they have Cutlers deal crushing their cap room, or the Eagles with mediocre Jason Peters fatass salary. I think crybaby Brandon Marshall is gonna screw up Miami's locker room as much as he's gonna help on the field.

I like our off season moves so far, and the draft last year. LB Andra Davis was a smart move for us recently.

Hard to judge the front office yet, they're just getting rolling here.

My point exactly

He was supposed to be but even if he proves to be an effective pass rusher, we still need another one at least. Look, it's a passing league. We play a 3-4 defense. The pass rush comes from the linebackers. Pass rush is critical. You simply can't have enough pass rushers. And do you want to put our presumed pass rush in that basket (Maybin, Schobel)?

The guy is trying to get traded or a new contract while covering it with a bunch of bull about 'family'. If he's here, great. If not, well, good a time as any to start trying to find a replacement.

Schobel does not strike me as a dishonest person. He has stated publicly that he does not want to be traded. He's not sure if he wants to play football anymore. I believe him.

I think he going to keep this up till July just so he can get out of the OTA's. I really think that is what this all about.

This may be closer to the truth. He may be leaning towards returning (he has a lot of money left to make) but doesn't want to be away from family more than he has to.

In all likelihood, the Bills know what Schobel is likely to do and as I said before, either way, it doesn't really change anything as far as needs are concerned. If he retires this year or next, we still have to upgrade our pass rush because he'll be gone soon, and we need depth in that area anyways.

Anyone who is actually miffed at Schobel truly needs to get a life.

AS much as I believe Schobel to be one of the few (read: FEW) consistent bright spots on the Bills for the past decade, I could not agree with you more.

This garbage of saying "ok, take your time. We can wait" is baloney. The draft is an excellent opportunity to replenish your roster, and his delaying of a decision could effect the overall player that is selected and where they are drafted.

Now, perhaps the only saving grace at this point would be that the brass plan on shifting Schobel to OLB should he return. This is good because I believe that the Bills now find themselves deeper at OLB with both Kelsay and Schobel moving to those spots along with a (hopefully) improved Maybin.

But c'mon Schobel, either dump or get off of the pot!

Are you all really that stupid in believing that the Bills don't know where they stand right now with Schobel and that whether or not he comes back is seriously going to alter what they do this week???

Nix says they are not going to move marshawn and theres hundreds of posts talking about when the Bills move him and that you can't believe anything that a GM says this time of the year, yet just because No word has come out of the Bills organisation about Schobel, it means they don't know?

If he comes back or not, the draft choices/board is not going to change much if at all

You're neglecting rule #1: Interpret reports/news in any way you want such that it fits your preconceived ideas/agenda.

Case in point: Nix says he expects Lynch to be here. But, I don't like Lynch because he's a thug; therefore, Nix obviously wants to trade him and is just creating a predraft smoke screen.

Case in point: Schobel says he's considering retirement, but there's no word from him or the Bills. But, I don't like Schobel because I'm an unknowledgable fan; therefore, Schobel is holding the team hostage (ala Favre) and now I have more reason to not like him.

I'd be willing to bet that Schobel has told them he wants to play on on a team very close to his East Texas home or he'll retire. No need for the Bills to say this publically.

Best bet is Retirement. Possibly a trade or more likely, release and sign with (Houston, Dallas, & NO, and maybe KC,& St. L are my guess). The only ones that would probably really work out any far as need and want are probably Hous and NO (bummer that NO signed Alex Brown).

Peace and Go Bills!
