Nanker
homelessness in America. It's no longer a topic in the public discourse. Amazing. Simply amazing.
KD in CA
Not really surprising considering the recession is over. I'm also relieved that no one who is out of work is facing difficult times. If there were any, there would be exposes by NBC 'News' on the issue almost every night, like they did in every other recession of the past two decades. Chef Jim
Obama was right. We really should be thanking him. How thoughtless of us. Well you know we're all a bunch of selfish pigs. I'm working on it though. I didn't pay my taxes this year, instead I'm going to give a dollar to every homeless person for every dollar in taxes I owed. Good thing I live in SF seeing I have to find over 12,000 homeless people. I should be done in under 20 minutes.

I'm not sure if you're meaning they'd attack me but you'd be surprised. You could walk amongst the homeless handing out bars of gold and those bastards wouldn't climb out from under their stinking blankets to come to you. You'd have to go to them. It's weird and I know because I've handed out things to them in the past. They're like mindless zombies. Mindless zombies? Is that redundant? Maybe it's because I do it at night (usually coming home drunk ) handing out money and cigarettes so they may not see me.

Everything is peachy keen. Except for government ownership of 1/3 of the economy and 10% unemployment. I'm still just amazed that homelessness was wiped out so quickly by BO and his minions. OCinBuffalo
I know you are being sarcastic, but we sort of have. Welfare and medicare went very far to take care of this problem. And why should we not have those programs though? If we are going to be and call ourselves the greatest country in the world, then we should be able to take care of our poor. And...the above represents the fundamental misunderstanding of medicare/medicaid. Medicare was never intended to "take care of the poor". Medicaid was intended to take care of young workers who were hurt, or, the severely disabled. Both programs were based on the premise "we need to something for life-long working people, who either get too old, or get hurt, and can't work anymore". Medicare isn't a all-year long thing. Practically everything in it has limitations. Both programs were also based on the premise that "nobody else in the world can compete with the US economically, because it's 1965, and everybody else's country is still f'ed up from WWII". Neither program was about giving away free health care to healthy people that simply don't work...and are therefore "poor". Neither program was about taking care of the elderly exclusively. However, in complete disregard of the intentions of these programs, 90% of both gets spent on caring for the elderly. Who ostensibly have become "poor" because they didn't save for their retirement....because they were told that "social security will take care of them". As I said above, we have solutions that don't fit today's problems, we have problems that have been CAUSED by these solutions, and clearly a fundamental misunderstanding of all of these programs. Welfare was a retarded program, and it's a good thing its mostly gone...unless you like seeing Ludicris cashing welfare checks.

LOL, so true Or "Old Dirty Bastard" Around this time, Jones gained notoriety when, as he was being profiled for an MTV biography, he took two of his thirteen children by limousine to a New York State welfare office to pick up his welfare check while his latest album was still in the top ten of the US charts. The entire incident was filmed by an MTV camera crew and was broadcast nationwide. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ol%27_Dirty_Bastard#Solo_career

Err I mean links exclusively made to make black people look bad. I tried to use small words this time to make sure you didn't have to look them up.
