Steely Dan
Never been a fan of David Gant since he tried to block the building of Frontier Field. Link Assembly bills would regulate sale of underpants April 15, 2010 7:49 AM Steve Flamisch, Capitol Correspondent ALBANY -- Closures. Layoffs. Underpants. In the midst of what Governor David Paterson has called a "time of reckoning" -- marked by a more than $9 billion deficit and untold ramifications for health care facilities, non-profits, schools, and taxpayers -- there are two proposals before the state Assembly that would regulate the sale of underwear. I've never bought an open bag of underwear so is this really a big problem?
Keukasmallies
Proving once again that if you concentrate on the micro view, e.g., open bag underpants sale; you can completely ignore the macro stuff that looms like the budget, and at the same time convince yourself that you're fully engaged doing the people's work. If I opened a bag of skivvies and found a pair with a racing stripe I think I'd return them and probably sue. Then I'd never shop there again. ExiledInIllinois
Just chiming in on an utterly stupid idea... They just had an expose on this by one of the area news station... Had people buy them and take them back with the hidden cameras rolling... Funny what the clerks did even against "store policy." Some just hung them back up, minutes later... Now, I get my underwear in a bag... No big deal... Even wash them first... I guess this is a real big problem with the chicks out there... And swimsuits too... They had one sting even stain the things with baby oil... Yep... Hung them right back on the hanger... Not slacking the ladies out there... It is amazing what they will return... Notice this was brought up by a woman politician...
ExiledInIllinois
Oh... Just saying... I am a liberal an all... I make a mistake with an underwear (yes, I wear boxesr... Package has to be fully banded or closed) purchase... I suck it up... No way I return... Not that I ever screwed that up before, but the article would become a rag for the car, for the life of me, what guy would return this kinda item... What I am saying, this appears to be a big chick problem...

Mississippi # In Canton, Mississippi, it is illegal to kill a squirrel with a gun while in a courtroom. I really want to know the genesis of that law!! Missouri # Any city in Missouri can levy a tax to support a band, as long as the mayor plays piccolo and each band member can eat peas with a knife. Well that came from public corruption. ExiledInIllinois
Aren't these commercials? Sound like the CarMax spots on the radio... Legal Obscurity "I'm a big fan of urban legends. Actually, I !@#$ing hate urban legends, but what I love is debunking them and telling the people who forward them to me by way of email, facebook, or whatever that they're an idiot just for thinking these things can possibly be true. I wait each week for my newsletter from Snopes.com to see what kind of stupidity is moving around the net just so I can pounce on people who somehow think they've stumbled onto some great secret that is completely valid just because some other idiot forwarded it to them a few minutes ago. This is why I !@#$ing hate these ads from CarMax so very much (there are two in a row here): Now, the "laws" that they are stating, as far as I can tell from a little research, could very well be actual laws. The problem is that the two outrageous laws they use are usually part of a much longer list of "dumb laws" that have been forwarded around the net so many times that they are used as content filler on a bunch of ****ty sites, so I have no friggin' idea if they're real or not." "I do know that University City, MO is a pretty affluent neighborhood, so the idea of them not allowing you to have a yard sale sign in your own front yard isn't that crazy. It's like how home owner associations don't let you paint your front door hot pink or have inflatable nativity scenes in your front yard over the holidays. It's tacky as hell and it makes the whole street look like ****. As far as the peanuts after sunset on Wednesday, who the hell knows. It probably had something to do with some bizarre business practice and it got left on the books so long that no one wants to take the time to fix the damn thing. It's like how in Los Angeles, it's illegal to throw anything out of your car window except water and chicken feathers because farmers who use to truck around their chickens kept getting pulled over for littering, so they had to modify the law. Kind of dumb, but it makes sense once you know the back story."

DC Tom
Aren't these commercials? Sound like the CarMax spots on the radio... The ones I posted are from the municipal codes themselves. Admittedly, I punched them up a bit for humor's sake (it's illegal in Eureka to pass a police officer twice in a four hour span - if the officer is working as a traffic control officer, and issues you a warning the first time. Eureka calls it "cruising". And it's illegal to drop anything from a plane above Eureka...unless the plane is owned by the federal or state government, which means that while you can't use an airplane toilet that dumps the waste overboard on flushing over Eureka, the Air Force can legally bomb them off the map.) But the laws I quoted DO actually exist in some form. Some of the other "dumb laws" I looked into ("It's illegal to wear cowboy boots in Blythe unless you own a minimum of two cows") are simply false - at least, they're not in the code.
