I nominate

.

WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG

AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG

I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN'T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,

OR TRAINS,

OR TRUCKS,

OR PRISON,

OR GETTING' DRUNK

WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG

AND HE SENT IT TO ME,

AND AFTER READING IT,

I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT

COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG

AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM

THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON

AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN

BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK

SHE GOT RUNNED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

Could there possibly be another song out there that does a better job of capturing the country/western spirit?

What happens when you play a country western record backwards?

You get your dog back

your wife back

your truck back......................

When I saw the title my mind went right to David Allen Coe, but a different song. I believe "If that ain't Country" is the name of it???

If I shot you when I wanted to,

I'd be out by now.

Certainly the creepiest country song ever, and one of the best...don't be turned off by the "video", just close your eyes and listen...it is eerie...

btw- a punch in the throat to anyone who insists Elvis Costello did this song better...

I feel sorry for people who write off country music because of the drek that is popular...there are some amazing songwriters, singers, and musicians in that genre...

Hmm. He's had a controversial past, IIRC. In 1982 I sat at a blackjack table at the Aladdin next to a sweet young thing (so was I, in 1982  ) who out of the blue told me she was DAC's wife. I already knew his history (I read Rolling Stone at the time, so it's gotta be true) and politely declined her advances.

I stepped into

A pile of you

And got love all over me....

And then there's the Jack Clement song...

You've been flushed from the toilet of my heart...sung by Johnny Cash on the folsom prison album I believe.

i don't care what anyone says, one of my tops is Folsom Prison Blues by the one and only Mr. Johnny Cash, who actually was a rocker in my books.

Wilco did a much better version, IMO.....

Definitely an eerie song. Never heard it before and I liked it.

Country music has produced some great music, mainly from "old school" performers IMO, people like Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, etc.

Some examples:

 All great choices....

I have been on a major Hag jag as of late... nobody sang better drinking songs....

Here is with Willie "Reasons To Quit"

Few guys could sing such a non-PC song as "Are the Good Times Really Over?", and nobody bats an eye, because he belives every word he is singing...
