billsfan89 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Can anyone tell me what the word fassal (not sure on the spelling Its pronounced like Jim Fassel except with an al sound at the end) I have an annoying friend who hears a word that makes him sound smart and then runs it to the ground. I think its either not a word or he is misusing it. I looked it up in the dictionary but it doesn't seem to be there at all. Either I am not spelling it right or its not a word.
Jim in Anchorage Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Whats the context? Sounds like a corruption of fossil.
billsfan89 Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Whats the context? Sounds like a corruption of fossil. That's a fassal argument or something to that extent. I even find myself using it from time to time
LeviF Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 That's a fassal argument or something to that extent. I even find myself using it from time to time Sounds like a spinoff of "fallacy" to me. Don't think it's a word, though.

Sometimes you'll hear snooty scientists call it "fassal matter".

Booster4324 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Maybe "facile"? That sounds right. Main Entry: fac·ilePronunciation: \ˈfa-səl\ Function: adjective Etymology: Middle French, from Latin facilis, from facere to do — more at do Date: 15th century (2) : shallow, simplistic <I am not concerned…with offering any facile solution for so complex a problem — T. S. Eliot> b : used or comprehended with ease c : readily manifested and often lacking sincerity or depth <facile tears>
Booster4324 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 That's inconceivable. Jim Facile talked a good game, but failed to deliver on his words in the big games.
Beerball Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 It means crap. Sometimes you'll hear snooty scientists call it "fassal matter". Don't you mean fecal? Not that it matters.
Booster4324 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Holy ****. Did this thread really just happen? Be nice, it is not the most common word.
DC Tom Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Be nice, it is not the most common word. Only if your vocabluary is facile.
ieatcrayonz Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Don't you mean fecal? Not that it matters. Fecal means unpredictable, weird or uncontrolable. Think of the phrase "The fecal finger of fate".
Booster4324 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I think the word is phallic. That's a phallic argument or something to that extent. I even find myself using it from time to time
Chef Jim Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Yes, it means your argument means nothing but dick.
Booster4324 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Yes, it means your argument means nothing but dick. I'll buy that, Chef has solved the puzzle!
