JohnC
you can be arrogant and nice at the same time. But there were plenty of actions he took that can be seen as arrogant. There is a simple measure for success in the NFL: a team's record. On that basis alone Donahoe was a failure. Whether he was arrogant or not is irrelevant. Bill Polian is not the most congenial or demure person running a football team. But based on his record he is a resounding success. Based on Donahoe's record he is a resounding failure. spartacus
They had a LT for the next decade, supposedly, by picking Mike Williams the same year they drafted Bledsoe. The only problem was how bad Mike Williams turned out. Not only could he not go to LT, he sucked as a RT as well. Fat Mike was never a LT, never played LT and was never going to be agile or quick enough to play LT in the NFL. It is a highlight of how bad the talent evaluators are at OBD that they truly believed the crap that since Williams played RT for a left handed QB he would be able to easily switch to LT to protect the blind side of a right handed QB The pick was stupid and arrogant from day 1 since they passed on a real LT in McKinnie to draft ANOTHER project with the 4th pick in the draft. I think Donahoe's problem was that he was too much of a micro manager. He was responsible for entire operation, from who they drafted or signed in free agency all the way down to how much it would cost to fix the potholes in the OBD parking lots. That's why you're seeing a trend away from one guy (like Holmgren, Parcells, etc.) handling every single aspect of a team. It's just too much for one guy to handle.
