djsabres
Ernie Davis could have been one of the best players the Bills ever drafted.
lets_go_bills
But he was a Brown, not a Bill. We never signed him, Cleveland did. Sad story. Such a horrible disease robbed this young man of his life.

BillsWatch
in 1961 Bills and Browns were in different leagues at time hence why Bills could draft him as well as Redskins (who would not play a black player) and traded him to Browns. Perhaps this is what you are missing? I do not remember him from 60's but I was not born and not a college football fan as a child or now.

yungmack
We had Cookie Gilchrist, arguably THE BEST ever. Read the 3rd paragraph Cookie G I agree. Paul Brown signed him out of high school (in western PA, of course) then hid him out in Canada from where the Bills finally gave him a shot. But the topic is "One of the best players the Bills ever DRAFTED," not the best who PLAYED for the Bills. I don't know if Ernie Davis was the best of all time that the Bills drafted, but he ranks in the top ten for certain. He was part of that great run of backs out of Syracuse under Ben Schwartzwalder. R. Rich
We had Cookie Gilchrist, arguably THE BEST ever. Read the 3rd paragraph Cookie G While Gilchrist was great, I wouldn't go as far as saying he was the best ever. Jim Brown is easily the best RB ever, and many (myself included) would even say he was the best player ever, regardless of position.
djsabres
My thinking was if this guy out played Jim Brown at Syracuse he could have been great in the NFL/AFL. I know he went to the Browns but as a Bills fan I'm proud to know that they drafted him as well.
