Bills defend use of punting photo in ticket ad..

First, the team says it wanted to find a picture that would show the scoreboard. They were mailing asking people to renew, and each picture was personalized to include the name of the season-ticket holder receiving the picture -- with the name appearing on the scoreboard. Each photo had a note that said: "Awaiting your return."

In an e-mail, Andrew Major, Bills Executive Director of Marketing, called the photo "one of our best that included the scoreboard in the background."

Second, Moorman is one of the Bills more respected players -- in no small part because of his community involvement. In 2008, he was named the team's Man of the Year. He has been to Pro Bowls, and he is a member of the Bills 50th season All-Time team.

I'm pretty sure anyone with a brain could have figured all of that out. It doesn't mean that it's not pathetic. Want to showcase Moorman and play off the idea of "awaiting your return?" Go with awaiting your return to your seats. Stage a photo showing a packed section of fans going crazy with one empty seat. Next to that seat is Moorman staring directly at the camera and pointing/inviting you back to your seat.

So instead of showcasing a negative (punt) return it's a positive return. Instead of showcasing a photo from a horrible football experience it's a positive one showing everyone cheering. Sure, you don't get the scoreboard with it but that idea is straight out of a Miles Kimball catalog.

Of course, all of this would have required the Bills to show some creativity and common sense. Like that's going to happen.
