Fan in Chicago Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 He arrived yesterday and his visit is continuing today. http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/...?page=2&c=y Thanx. Hope we land this beef for the line.
Kingfish Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Thanx. Hope we land this beef for the line. Me too. I really liked this guy coming out of college, I can't believe how disappointing his career has been.
H2o Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 If anything, you would think a guy with his size could command the attention of a couple of blockers to free up our LB's to make plays.
5 Wide Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I think Williams can play end in the new scheme. Like Simon said, he would look horrible at the combine, but there were quite a few plays that I remember Williams making tackles near the sideline after scraping down the line. With 3 down linemen over 300 lbs, that is more beef to contend with for sure.
thebandit27 Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 No way Williams starts in 3-4, at least if play traditional 3-4. He is way too slow to move to end, and isn't going to force double teams, or be able to protect the ILB if plays NT. At best he gets 20-30 snaps a game as pass rusher/rotational player. I hate to see him hit the bench, but he just doesn't fit this type of defense. Good players play regardless of the scheme. Don't tell me his size doesn't allow him to play NT when Dallas has a 293-lb guy at NT (Jay Ratliff) that's made 2 consecutive pro bowls. Williams is everything a good NT should be, except his size. Agreed. And as I've said, if a guy knows how to play with leverage and tie up blockers (which Williams can do) he can overcome the size issue. Williams reminds me a lot of Baltimore's Kelly Gregg, who's successfully manned the NT spot in their defense for several years (Haloti Ngata does NOT play NT in that scheme).
Philo Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 He arrived yesterday and his visit is continuing today. http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/...?page=2&c=y Good news. Get 'er done, Buddy!
Adam Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Personally, I don't even think we need to start our best 11 players- take our best players and put them in the best possible position to make plays. Then fill in the rest.
Lori Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Update, per Mark Gaughan's chat: Kennedy will be speaking with Buffalo media in a few minutes.
F UNC Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Any news on weather we got him or not? or "whether" we got him?
Arkady Renko Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Update, per Mark Gaughan's chat: Kennedy will be speaking with Buffalo media in a few minutes. This probably means there is no contract and he is headed out the door, right?

Wagon Circler Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Actually, they USUALLY do that. Keeps the fan base excited. I don't expect him to be signed today. He's thirty yrs old, has had one good yr, agent probably has him overvalued.
Mr. WEO Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Me too. I really liked this guy coming out of college, I can't believe how disappointing his career has been. Got it done, Buddy! At least he was hailed as "a reliable backup" in Minny.....
