Labor is a supply and demand market. If illegals will pick mushromms at $8/hour, but Americans won't do the work for less than $10/hour then the rate to pick mushroom has to rise to $10/hour and the price of mushrooms in the super market has to rise. It's that simple. Right now, there is an ample supply of labor among Americans to pick mushrooms.

I'm all for immigrants coming here if the environment at the time is such that we can provide opportunity for them and not at great expense to citizens. We're just not in a period now where can do that. Frankly we should have an immigration budget (in terms of headcount) and need to fix the leaky borders.

I've done plenty reading on the cost of illegal immigration. You can do the same. The return on the investment (benefit) of illegal immigration is easily to calculate. Start at zero and you're near the finish line.
