Start with the example of TOdd Marinovich- a typical kid who was pushed to hard by his parents to be a great QB- couldnt handle the pressure, and turned to drugs. A lot like a lot of today's athletes- pushed to hard, and turn to drugs for relief, only they have more money.

Add some fan abuse and it gets worse.

Maybe people have to learn that the way we look at sport as being so important is wrong. We put way too much on athletes- especially at a young age. Maybe to get rid of the messed up athlete, we have to get rid of the "little league parents"

My guess is that Artest has a lot of similarities w/Marinovich.

Either way, the fan violence has to stop, regardless of the method used to do it. I know I'd call security on anyone who was screaming inappropriate things from the stands. The mistake is that freedom of speech is not a liscence to be abusive, and its time that the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB starts to kick the fans around until they learn that- they have more $$$$ than the fans, and will be able to win lawsuits to protect their players, which is what they should be concerned about.
