cåblelady Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I think you are correct, on how it started and why it is widely used. As has been mentioned several times, it is a NYC-centric view of the state and a relatively uninformed one at that. I think what some (including me) are saying is, when we use that term about Buffalo, or when those from Jamestown, Elmira, New Paltz, etc use that term about their towns, we contribute to the ignorance and reinforce this sloppy label. Screw Elmira. What about Corning?
Chalkie Gerzowski Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 yes, the yankees play in NYC - just like the mets. where is that?
Chalkie Gerzowski Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 downstate does that start at the Catskills? there should be signs notifying of it... this upstate/downstate conundrum.
Just Jack Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 does that start at the Catskills? there should be signs notifying of it... this upstate/downstate conundrum. South of the Tappen Zee is where it starts.
Chef Jim Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Screw Elmira. What about Corning? I've got a great joke here but because it's a response to your post I'm too much of a gentleman to post it.

Chef Jim Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Screw Elmira. What about Corning? Screw Elvira? Sure I'd screw Elvira. She was kind of creepy and all, but she had some great cleavage, so yeah, I'd screw Elvira. What? Oh and I don't know who this Cornig chick is so I can't aswer to that one.
bbb Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 does that start at the Catskills? there should be signs notifying of it... this upstate/downstate conundrum. It's southeast of the pop/soda line
