bills_fan Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I LOVED the original, one of my all time favoritie movies. I was apprehensive about a sequal. And the trailer scenes with Shia Lebeouf/Carey Mulligan do nothing to quell my apprehension. But damn, its good to see Michael Douglas as Gordon Geckko again! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZL7gF86tBo...layer_embedded#

KD in CA Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 It'll be an average, forgettable flick that will seem worse because it's trading on a classic. It's obvious from the trailer there will be way too much focus on the whiny daughter story line with all the "he'll ruin everything!" clichés. One of the many things Stone did correctly in the original was limiting the screen time for Darryl Hannah and her awful acting. If only Scorsese had done the same in Casino.

Gordon Gekko is to finance what Wayne Gretzky is to hockey players. Some things should be left untouched.
HopsGuy Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Loved the homage to the Blues Brothers prison scene and the huge cell phone. Whenever there was tension on the trading desk, I'd put a huge box up to my ear and recite the "Money never sleeps" scene. Always got a laugh. I'm looking forward to this, but I'm sure I'll be disappointed. Gordon should have taken kid to Iceland and bankrupted the country with CDOs only to be murdered by the president of Iceland (portrayed by Stellan Skarsgård, of course). That would have been awesome. /I'm gonna make you rich, Bud Fox.

Hannah was awfully miscast in the first one, but she was one of the hottest things going at the time. I read she did not really want the role. I agree, there will be too much focus on the daughter and Shia LeBeouf. I will see it just for the Geckko scenes, but I doubt we are looking at Godfather Part II here. Gecko is a true folk hero and I hope they don't mess with him, although the trailer looks promising.
Astrojanitor Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 These 20 years later kind of sequels are like bands reuniting....usually just kind of makes you hate the original a little. That being said, if someone wants to make another Cool Hand Luke (Cooler Hand Luke?) I'll be there day one.
