_BiB_ Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Out of curiosity, I'm all for traditions, but where is it set in stone that Thanksgiving games are always Detroit and Dallas? Is there something formal, or is it just an understood thing within scheduling?
Pete Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 When the NFL first started scheduling Thanksgiving games no teams wanted to play on Thanksgiving. Detroit and Dallas volunteered. After a few years every NFL team wanted to play on Thansgiving. Detroit and Dallas were rewarded for playing when noone else wanted to

Detroit has played on Thanksgiving since the 1960's. Dallas picked up the late game around 1980, I believe.
ICE Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 I remember the thurman vs Barry game in the early 90's. That was cool.
