Left tackle

Gil Brandt was on Siruis Nfl radio this morning and dropped a few tidbits about this years Tackle class.

He said he thought both A davis and Buluga are Right tackles in the Nfl. He also bashed Campbell , bascially saying he ws no were worthy of a high draft pick.

If he is correct this throws a big monkey wrench in the thought that the left tackle would come from this draft class.

In addition Pat Kirwin kind of dismissed both qbs as fran kaliber.

Then let's draft a left-handed QB.

There is enough O-line talent currently on the roster w/ Bell, Meredith, Scott. They just need to stay healthy and hopefully our new strength and conditioning coaches can help remedy the problems there. I think the Bills should go McClain with first pick, best run stopping DT in second, and if he is still there Lefevour.

Then Trade down if Bradford isn't there. Look Kirwin is on the radio because he sucked as the Jets GM. Gil Brandt through is the 'Godfather'. If he says they aren't up to par, you can put some serious stock in it.

!@#$ taking a friggin LB. The guy is an ILB not an OLB pass rushing specialist. And even if he were you do NOT take a LB when your DL isn't fixed.

So take a RT Levitre can play LT along with Bell. My next QB is a Left hander anyway. Actually Jason Peters was a much better RT than he has been a LT the same thing can be said about him. Iaputi is the best OL in this class and i would take him number one. Yes I would trade down if I could.

Anyone believing that Levitre can be the full time starter at LT doesn't follow football closely. It's almost as pointless as saying Langston Walker is capable of handling the position. A LT must be stout enough to handle bull rushes from rush LB's who get a running start, and nimble enough to move laterally to handle speed rushers. I don't care how much an OT weighs, trying to stop a 250+ rush LB with a running start requires a lot of strength and "sand in the pants."

OLT's handle the opponents best pass rusher, ROLB or RDE. The best ones are left alone on an island, but most aren't elite. Still, when you've got a lock down OLT, it makes things easier for the entire offense. And when you've got a bad one (as Buffalo did all last season) the OL and by default the entire offense suffers mightily.

Fans can debate the Peters trade, but here we are debating about taking a LT and spending a valuable resource on a rookie. Replacing departed veterans year after year via the draft is why this team remains mediocre and doesn't compete for anything.

And here is another thing, NO LT in this draft is a pure lock down, leave on an island LT. there is no Pace, Boscelli etc in this draft. If there was then so be it.

Also Nix was able to draft a stud LT in SD in the 2nd round. And again only TWO of the teams in the playoffs had a 1st round LT.

So if there's no lockdown LT in the draft, why draft one at all? We know the top guys will be franchised, which leaves scrubs like D. Bell, Meredith, et al as options without a draft pick.

Now before you change your story on draft day, don't you draft guys for potential, given that rookies typically aren't big time contributors their first year?

Thing is, this team has too many needs and not enough resources to fill them. We get that you want a QB, but when the OL gives up 46 sacks, they need some help-now. And their current group doesn't have a single guy capable of manning the position.

Top ten selections are supposed to be instant contributers. with the exception being QB

The OL didn't give up 46 sacks, at least 20 of them are on the QB at minimum.

Yeah and the addition of willis has got them to the playoffs how many times?

Not the point (IMHO) - they WILL make the playoffs, in due time. If the Bills get a player with his talent - no matter what position, the Bills will be on their way to the playoffs. The Bills have way too many holes. No one player will right this ship. Draft the best available player.

It is hard to predict how these guys will play in the NFL. Thankfully we pay Buddy Nix and Whaley the big $$ for making this call ...

If Buddy agrees with this then expect to see us take a NT or LB at #9 ... unless we have a trade down opportunity.

I always have said Davis was only a RT, and that Bulaga was more of a RT but could play left. I think he is a very good pass blocker but not the best. What he gives up in pass protection he makes up for in his run blocking. He would be a multi PB RT though thats for sure. Davis and/or T. Williams will be around for us in round 2. And yea Campbell basically blows.
