Hammered a Lot Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 they will, the Bills need more revenue to stay here. who's not getting "the point?" The out of touch guys in the Niagara Falls Building Inspector office.
truth on hold Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 You can park here if you like, but it'll be a 4-5 mile walk to the stadium. I'd also ask the person parking if they want a stadium in Niagara Falls, if they say yes, I tack on a $10 surcharge. "cold beer here!!!" guy?
BillsVet Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Most posters here are not the brightest bulbs in the shed. they can't connect the dots that when you spend $1 billion to build a new domed stadium for 8 home games (2 in Toronto), ticket prices and everything will go up exponentially - not to mention the personal seat license fees just for the privilege to buy those inflated tickets and the kicker is that the on-field product will not be any better than it is today. The NFL loves Buffalo playing in Toronto, but isn't keen on their venue. At some point, it'll need to be addressed and I can't see two stadiums being built to serve 1 team. NFL owners along with the commissioner want the league to grow. And if they had their choice, owners would not hesitate if a reasonable bid for the Bills came in from Toronto as long as a stadium provision is there. It was reported someone from Toronto already put in a bid for the Rams.
wide_right Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 "cold beer here!!!" guy? Oh yeah, thought I'd seen Chalkie before.
Marv's Neighbor Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 DOMED STADIUM, DOWNTOWN NIAGARA FALLS. "NIAGARA FRONTIER BILLS"BUILT WITH STIMULUS MONEY. GIVE OBAMA THE JOBS HE WANTS. It's all there for the taking if we'd just freaking ask. That's how we go THE ROCKPILE & the AUD in the 30's!
PromoTheRobot Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 That's how we go THE ROCKPILE & the AUD in the 30's! War Memorial Stadium: War Memorial Stadium was originally constructed as a WPA project in 1937. The Aud: The Buffalo Memorial Auditorium began as a public works project to replace an aging civic auditorium. In June 1938, city officials sent a loan and grant application to the WPA for funds to build the new structure. The approval of the $1.2 million grant was announced in Washington D.C. on October 7, 1938,[1] and construction began on November 30, 1939. What was this WPA? Was it some Obama-hatched socialist plot to destroy America? PTR
wide_right Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 That's how we go THE ROCKPILE & the AUD in the 30's! awesome point WPA
Bleed Bills Blue Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 The reason for a new stadium is to maintain a level of quality the NFL demands. It's their club. You want to be a part of it? You gotta pay. You are right in that you could play football in RWS for a hundred years. But the NFL does not want their teams in old facilities. PTR If this truly was the only way to keep the Bills here, well, ok... But you know, I hear this all the time, and it just doesn't make much sense to me. Why can't a RWS renovation give the league everything it requires? If the reason is to enable the team to have scores of luxury corporate suites (which is where the big money comes from), well, who are the WNY businesses who will snap these up, anyway? Build it, and they still won't come. And that's not money split with the other teams anyway, is it? It can't be simply to provide a good looking stadium for the tv audience, because, really, all you see is the field and announcers for 99% of the broadcast. And besides, isn't it more in the best interest for an NFL to show a packed house full of rabid fans instead of a pretty stadium? That provides an image that your product is thriving. For excitement and electricity we can match any team in the league (e.g., the prime time Dallas game). If you need to increase the gate so that there's a higher split with the visiting team, well, I get that. But , my observation of the local game-going fan base is that the number of new "fair-weather" fans you bring in to a new stadium won't begin to offset the number you'll lose if you double or triple the cost of season tickets.
OrangeJuiceSimpson Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 A retractable dome adds a lot to the cost. Also the myth of the Bills being snow warriors is long gone. And quite frankly I'm too old to be freezin' my ass off. Trust me people would rather sit in a dome. The players would rather play in a dome. Having a dome would even make signing free agents easier. PTR Our players aren't from Buffalo! It's benificial for everyone to have a dome.
truth on hold Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Our players aren't from Buffalo! It's benificial for everyone to have a dome. 3 of the 4 conference championship teams play in domes. both super bowl teams play in domes. dome fever, catch it!
weehawk Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Where will this additional stadium revenue come from? Simply because the stadium is new? Unless you are talking about an 80k+ sized stadium at $100 a ticket, there is not a lot more money to be made from the stadium. We have a very low corporate base and an economy made up of union, govt, and medical care workers that mostly make lower middle-class wages. If the argument is that the team needs to make more money at the gate to survive, then you might as well say goodbye now. Avg NFL ticket = $75 Bills new avg ticket = $59 If they raised it to the NFL avg, they'd make an addl 10.5 million a season. Not enough to make that much of a difference and it assumes that we sell out every game (pre-season too). I just dont see how a new stadium even comes close to saving the team. In fact, I think it would ultimately hurt attendance due to higher prices across the board. Let's not forget that everything else associated with the stadium increases too. Parking, beer, hot dogs, etc. AND, they better build it with as much tailgating space as they have now, or they'll lose the party crowd. Worry about getting back to the playoffs. A new stadium is not needed and could hurt the tewam more than it helps. they will, the Bills need more revenue to stay here. who's not getting "the point?"

Chalkie Gerzowski Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 "cold beer here!!!" guy? What part of being five miles from Ralph Wiggam Stadium did you not catch? You can BYOB and then stumble five miles to the stadium.
BobbyC81 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I'd rather not take any Obama money...our grandchildren's grandchildren will be paying for it in the end. The world ends in 2012 anyways. We need the Bills to just focus on winning now.
