wide_right Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 It's 20 miles from downtown Buffalo to the Falls. And despite Chalkie's insistence that it's inaccessible from Buffalo there are several roads in. It would cut travel time for Toronto fans by at least 30 minutes. Plus locating it in Niagara Falls puts the stadium into an established tourist area. True, the US side blows compared to the CAN side but a new domed stadium (it HAS to be a dome IMO) can do a lot to renovate the USA side.PTR theres a lot more to do in the downtown NF area as is than there is in Orchard Park, which essentially is only the stadium
wide_right Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 You don't think the NFL would frown upon the idea of a stadium in Niagara Falls, NY? You don't think they would push heavily for a different location? ive seen several network Bills telecasts where they show images of the falls at the beginning of the telecast. they already think its a draw
The Tomcat Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Upgrade my ass - the Bills need a new stadium - possibly in Lancaster, to continue drawing fans from Canada and Rochester. RWS is a dump and a huge pain in the ass to get to if you live north or east of Buffalo. But I live south!
May Day 10 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Niagara falls couldn't even maintain a short season class a new york penn league team. Its beyond disgusting up there. I'm not trying to flame people but it smells up there. Bad and toxic smelling air. Most of the city is garbage unless you are at the outlet mall or on the brink of the falls looking at canada.
Offside Number 76 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 IF WE DON'T SOMEONE ELSE WILL. I'D RATHER HAVE OUR GRANDCHILDREN'S GRANDCHILDREN BE THE BENEFICIARY Exactly. They'll be paying for the Bush money and the Reagan money anyway, what's a few trillion more? I guarantee you that other communities are taking advantage of this, knowing that the communities who don't take advantage STILL will share in the cost, so why not us?

Most of the city is garbage unless you are at the outlet mall or on the brink of the falls looking at canada. there seems to be a notion that sports stadiums are in the most pristine, upper class areas. well, the most famous stadium, yankee stadium, is in the south bronx ... dt nf is heaven compared to that. and if you want upper class area, dt nf is minutes from lewiston heights, the most stunningly beautiful area in all of western, ny.
weehawk Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 How does a new stadium solve anything? They already get 73k in there to watch bush-league games (now at a $59 average ticket price). A new stadium means only one thing, much higher ticket prices. I know there's some dumb people in the area when it comes to the Bills, but I cant believe that people would pay upwards of $100 a ticket to watch this mess in a new stadium. I also dont get Goodell's statement. What needs improvement? Ok, the bathrooms and some more concession stands. Otherwise, it's a decent facility for an economically depressed area that sees year over year population decreases. They struggle to sell the corporate boxes as it is, so no upgrades are needed there. Finally, I dont see any govt money flowing into WNY for this. This would have to be a privately built stadium and no one is going to invest that kind of money into Buffalo (sadly).
Chalkie Gerzowski Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 ive seen several network Bills telecasts where they show images of the falls at the beginning of the telecast. they already think its a draw LOL, they do that on a running loop... for Sabres games too that are televised on Versus. Obligatory shot of the falls, obligatory shot of the little trolley that could and finally the obligatory shot of someone throwing wings around in a stainless-steel bowl.

PTR That would be the ultimate silver bullet project, a perfect WNYesque type thing to do. And why do you keep buttering up to Toronto??? Your concern for a new stadium seems to be completely Canadian-centric.

Chalkie Gerzowski Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 They should already have an interest in the Niagara Falls, St. Catharines areas already. Two games have been placed in Toronto and I believe we've seen how well-received that was. Besides, I continually read how the Canadian fans like coming down to OP to tailgate and watch the game. I haven't read them ranting about the location of the current stadium.

NFL in dt nf would mean 80,000+ more people at least 8x a year. Many of whom would take the opportunity to visit the CDN side. Out of town fans would often stay at CDN hotels, which means supporting restaurants, shopping and dining there. A Super Bowl would generate the much needed and deserved International attention. The multiplier effect would be felt throughout the year as, for example, some visitors would make it a point to come back during the summer and enjoy the new golf courses too.
truth on hold Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Methinks Chalkie is one of the guys charging $20 for parking on his front lawn near the Ralph LOL. He's desperately trying to salvage his livelihood.

I'll bet most of those dreaming of a new stadium here don't actually buy seasons and go to the games. I'd rather not have to pay an extra $400-500 a year for my tix. I look around, and the people I see at the Ralph on Sunday have a great game day experience as things are. A decent team would make things even better, but who really cares about individual seats with cup holders and crap like that? I mean, Promo is right, I could just as well fall in love with a new stadium, but how much more would I have to pay?

He's desperately trying to salvage his livelihood. You can park here if you like, but it'll be a 4-5 mile walk to the stadium. I'd also ask the person parking if they want a stadium in Niagara Falls, if they say yes, I tack on a $10 surcharge.

I mean, Promo is right, I could just as well fall in love with a new stadium, but how much more would I have to pay? The reason for a new stadium is to maintain a level of quality the NFL demands. It's their club. You want to be a part of it? You gotta pay. You are right in that you could play football in RWS for a hundred years. But the NFL does not want their teams in old facilities. Besides there are design flaws in RWS that you could correct: wider concourses, more bathrooms, better concessions, etc. And I really believe building a dome will draw more people to games and make the Bills more attractive to free agents. Playing in snow will no longer be an issue. PTR

Most posters here are not the brightest bulbs in the shed. they can't connect the dots that when you spend $1 billion to build a new domed stadium for 8 home games (2 in Toronto), ticket prices and everything will go up exponentially - not to mention the personal seat license fees just for the privilege to buy those inflated tickets and the kicker is that the on-field product will not be any better than it is today.

PromoTheRobot Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 they will, the Bills need more revenue to stay here. who's not getting "the point?" Some of those "dim bulbs" are forgetting the Bills are not guaranteed a spot in the NFL. Being in the NFL is expensive. Going to NFL games in almost every other city costs 2-3X what it costs here. If you think it's too expensive to keep up with the rest of the league, then maybe Buffalo shouldn't be an NFL city anymore. Maybe Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones and Bob Kraft are right? PTR
