I surely understand when people are critical of this staff, and, ultimately, everyone will wait and see, because if they are successful, then we'll all be happy.

I'm o.k. with things for a few reasons: I like Buddy Nix, I think he's got a proven track record with talent evaluation - and we need an influx of talent. I trust in all his years of football he knows football guys when he sees them. Plus, he brings in Whaley as his eventual replacement - and that guy has a lot of respect around the league, and is himself a good talent evaluator.

Another thing - when I've discussed what I'd do in the past if I had a shot at coaching, I've always said I'd put more money in coaches and have more of them, because good coaching can win with less talent than a poorly run team with a lot of talent. New England and Washington are examples of each, respectively. Now, this staff has hired a lot of coaches. I think if they are good teachers, then we're off to a good start, because the team is young and can still be molded.

Additionally, the offensive side and defensive side are in agreement on making the focus on players strengths, and not trying to implement a system that doesn't fit.

There are enough positives for me to wait and see without being too quick to judge. I'm excited about the draft and F.A.

Don't need to be famous, but needs to be SOMEWHAT competent. Where were these guys? There's a reason why most of us have never heard of 'em. So, until they show me something, I'll choose to believe that the coaching choices are FAIL.

They aren't competent in your mind, why? You say they don't need to be famous and then the next line you speak of their needing to be somewhat competent and there's a reason why we haven't heard of them.

Point 1: You seem to tie their competency into their Q rating. So it seems for you they need to have

name recognition in order to gain your respect. Which is an inaccurate way to judge any of these coaches.

I would say the fact that they have been coaches in professional football or major college football would

speak to their competency. There are many coaches in the world. They haven't gotten as far as they have

because they are bad coaches.

Point 2: Yeah, the reason you haven't heard of them is because they are assistant coaches. Name us the

assistant coaches on Pete Carroll's staff in Seattle or Jacksonville's. Quick what about the 49ers or the

Broncos. BTW, do it without going to their team sites and looking it up. Unless you are in the world of pro

football you probably wouldn't know any coach except ones who are pointed out to you by the media during

a game or in "rumored" reports of HC jobs or Coordinator jobs.

Look, ultimately everyone's going to give them a chance--you know this to be true. But you and a several others are missing the point of those who have some significant reservations about this staff.

Eveyone, immediately after the season eneded, was expecting not just a housecleaning, but a restocking of the staff with significant replacements. Instead we got Gailey, Modkins and Edwards.

Peolple are free to believe anything they want in order to be more comfortable with their interpretation of reality. Examples: Gailey was "almost hired" by Pioli, when in fact he was fired by Pioli. Modkins, our new OC, is an acceptable choice because he was employed by a SB team (as a RB coach for a horrible running team)--AND because he won't be calling the plays anyway (there's some powerful logic)! That job will fall to the HC, who was relieved of those very duties by his last HC despite working "miracles" with Tyler Thigpen the season prior. Our defensive coordinator was not Urban Myers, but he was once hired by him.

In fact, in 1 year alone, our OC has gone from Turk Schonert (bad), to Alex van Pelt (awful), to .......Curtis Modkins, with no playcalling duties at all!

The problem with these posts is that they seem to be written in some sort of historical vacuum---as though Gregg Williams, Mularkey, and Dick Jauron never happened, never existed in Buffalo. Every one of those disasters was greeted with "sure they're not big names, but let's just give them a chance."

Sorry, but your conclusion that those who are a bit more.....skeptical than you and yours about this suspect crew are a bunch of whiners or are upset simply because these coaches aren't on "madden" is dicsonnected with reality. But, that's fine if it works for you.

Thanks WEO, it's refreshing to know that not everyone is incapable of being a Bills fan and an honest and accurate evaluator of talent (both player and personnel) at the same time. :D
