Chef Jim Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Up until about a week ago, you had heard exactly two XTC songs. You hate being called an idiot yourself, yet you just keep tossing out the insults even after I let everything go. I may be a lot of things but I can promise you that I am not an idiot. I hate that I called you a bunch of names but things escalated. Again, I could care less what/who you like. Never has been my point.... I can't stand it when people judge things based off of a brief exposure. Is that how you would like to be judged or defined? Does one period of your life or event pigeonhole and define YOU. It would be great if we could carry on a civil conversation. I never said that you SHOULD like any band EVER. You made an off the cuff remark that the band was comprised of lousy musicians, I refuted that with evidence that suggested otherwise. What is so hard about this? You don't have to like something in order to recognize a talent in it. Sheeesh! You also don't have to dislike something in order to recognize the lack of talent. I think I'm quite capable of judging musical talent. My opinion...they suck. Sorry that hurts you so much.

My opinion...they suck. Sorry that hurts you so much. Does not hurt me in the least, it amuses me to no end. For a guy who scrambled to research as hard as you have, I feel personally validated somehow! To find even two folks on this board who would consider XTC high on their personal favorites list is astounding given this relatively miniscule cross section of the population. In other words I found more than I would have ever dreamed of on Buffalo Bills MB! Sure you have a right to your opinion, you seem to think that I somehow want to convert you, not true. It is strange however that such a bright individual such as yourself could not pick out the British charm (thought your were a Python fan?) and realize that at least lyrically this band is a cut above their supposed contemporaries. Again, totally understand that they are not your cup of tea, but to clump them into the "suck camp" is to miss the boat. Their quirky sound and humor is what makes them fascinating to myself and others who dig 10 layers deep beyond what appears to be on the surface. I have not personally addressed you since last week, I don't know why you feel the need to "jump in" to a conversation and attack. I do not hate you, yet you are filled with hatred toward me. Why not use the ignore feature if I cause you so much grief??? You can go your merry way and I can go mine, but I will talk as long as you are willing to listen, and apparently you are prepared to listen a lot!

See the reason I dislike your kind is because you think your opinion about something as subjective as music the the only right opinion. You called me thick headed and an idiot because I could not see how complex and great this band is. . That's a really absurd position for you to take and the reason you were piled on. I like British charm in my Britcoms and British comedies, not in my music. Oh and BTW have I based my opinion on vague surface information or hard research? You seem to have accused me of both.

I know nothing of you, and you have noooooooooooooo idea about "my kind". We both know that you made some sarcastic refrences elsewhere, including your "wicked" post. Pot? Is that you? I did not address that however. I said that you were hard-headed, heck I'm hard-headed! Not at all the insult that you think it is. I really don't know what it is that you want from me??? But I do know that I have a right to be on the message board of my favorite team just as much as you or anyone else who has been on here forever. Will it satisfy you if I denounce XTC and burn all of my records? We all can't help what we love...you love salmon and I love XTC . Should I deprive you of your salmon?
XTC Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 For your listening displeasure sir: Sorry audio only, but check out those (real) strings from the Skylarking album. Dave Gregory and TR worked this one out nicely.
Buftex Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The theatrics were spectacular. They've been known for great visual shows since they days they smashed all the intruments on stage at the conclusion of the show (a buddy of mine still has a mic from their show at Melody Fair- of all places). They sounded terrible playing though, until I slapped the headphones on. Surround sound tech simply doesn't deliver in the open like it does through headphones. With them, they really sounded great- geriatrics notwithstanding.. Other than the fact that Roger was lip-synching (poorly), I really didn't think they were that awful... am I nuts? I didn't have high expectations...first time I saw them live was at the Aud in 1979 (day after the Cincinatti stampede), on their first tour without Moon... I think they were pretty great then...saw them on various "last" tours over the years, and, they got worse each time...but, I have heard them sound far worse than last night...would have preferred that they just did 2 or 3 songs straight through, but wtf? Most every Who "hit" is an anthem of some kind...I don't think there are many 60-something year old singers who could hit all those notes in succession...Daltrey was a great screamer in his day...but his day passed...no reason they shouldn't be able to play anymore...still would rather hear them than Rush or some band like that...
