Just sitting here thinking about a slimmed down, sped up, pissed off Chris Kelsay at OLB. Could be fun to watch.

The only people that it would be fun for would be opposing team's and their fans.

It's obvious to us now! All these guys we thought were mediocre players were really just being held back by "the scheme" and playing out of position.

This season, it's "lights out" baby! We won't even NEED a good QB!

this is thinking outside the box, but how would kelsay be at ILB? he seems too big and slow to be a OLB, and too small to be a DE in a 3-4...

ILBs are smaller

huh, i don't think i've ever actually tried to compare the size of inside and outside backers, i just assumed ILB's were bigger... but thanks for setting me straight

I'm thinking Kelsay is gonna be out the door since he doesn't really fit anywhere's in the 3-4. Same with Schobel

Kelsay, Schobel, Denney and Stroud all will be gone because of their bloated contracts - conveniently blamed on the switch to the 3-4

look for Ralph to take payroll down to under $75 mil

Gailey and the new Def Cord have already said the Bills will be running a 3-4 out of the box but will mix it up and be somewhat of a hybrid defense. If (big if) Maybin can play OLB, then you keep Poz and Mitchell at ILB and need to pick up a new OLB on the other side. You move Stroud and Williams to DE's and pick up a stud DT and waalaa, your defense is solved. You can keep Ellison to back up just about any LB position, and you can keep Schobel to fill in as OLB if needed, or you can keep Schobel and Kelsey for that hybrid (really just an in game change to a 4-3 to confuse the offense) defense they are talking about.

You don't kick a double-digit sack guy to the curb.

Neither Kelsay or Schobel fit a 3-4 scheme at this time in their careers. That leaves a lot of holes to fill. They did say they would run a hybrid system 3-4/4-3....whatever that means. That is the problem with bringing in "a system." Trying to have players fit your system is always the worst way to coach. Maybe they will play out of a 4-3 system the first year or two and transition to a 3-4 eventually. Who knows.....but it seemed everyone here was so enamored with the 3-4 even though we have no players to play it particularly well and it adds another few areas of need to a team that already has a handful.
