WellDressed Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Couldn't make it through a week without hearing Helen Folasade Adu's voice at least twice.
BillsPride12 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Although he was never praised for his singing I always thought Jimi Hendrix's singing ability was underrated , probably because it was overshadowed by his guitar playing but there was just something really soulful listening to Jimi sing
Jim in Anchorage Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 I doubt any folks here have heard this tune before, but it features four outstanding, distinct vocals. The song is called 'Secret Garden,' it's a slick love making tune. Play it for that special lady. Artists: Barry White James Ingram El DeBarge Al B. Sure Secret Garden Definitely in. I am surprised no one mentioned Lou Rawls
Alaska Darin Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Ronnie James Dio. Say a little prayer for RJD - he's suffering from stomach cancer.
WellDressed Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Definitely in. I am surprised no one mentioned Lou Rawls Do you remember Barry White's "Love Unlimited Orchestra??"
texasjute Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Good thread. Four pages and no Ella Fitzgerald? Ella singing the songbooks is one of the most important and influential contributions in the history of recorded music. That's a voice - listen to at least 1:30
Astrojanitor Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Here's an obscure name, but does anyone know Antony Haggerty? He fronts this arty cabaret group called Antony and the Johnsons. Amazing voice that sounds like a male Nina Simone. Certainly not for everyone, but if you can dig on soaring vocals with piano and strings it'll kill you. Klaus Nomi had a cool/weird voice too
Buftex Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 George Jones... Okay, thinking about it some more... not only George Jones Ray Charles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15QXQ_TB1Cc Charlie Rich (one of the most criminally overlooked artists in pop music): Jack Jones... as smooth as they come... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iCDasMAyKM
millbank Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 recall it being Susan Boyle like in that initially had no idea man had such a wonderful voice....
DrFishfinder Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Flora Purim. She could sing the phone book and it would sound gorgeous.
Chandler#81 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Gary Puckett. What ever happened to him? Great rock balladeer.
KD in CA Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 No love for the late ? Wings and Jazz at the Anchor Bar; that was a great combo.
