ExiledInIllinois Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Get in one car and the gas pedal sticks, get in a Prius and the brakes may become unrepsonive... WTF! More Woes for Toyota "...The flaw, which requires a software programming change to fix, makes the brakes momentarily unresponsive. Toyota was checking if there were reports of similar problems with other hybrid models though they use a different braking system from the Prius..." I have no doubt that they will do everything in their power NOT to have recall. But man, step on the gas and you continue to go... Step on the brake and can't stop. "...A major Toyota dealership in Tokyo said the automaker had informed dealers that Prius brakes can sometimes fail to work for less than a second but it had not told owners..." Couldn't have happened to a nicer company that has been burying their problems for years. What is Consumer Reports gonna do? I waiting for a scandal their to unfold... One thing is for sure, they are under the microscope now... IMO, more and more people are buying their vehicles and those people may be a lot harder on their rides than their customers in the past.

This crap is almost as fake as an NBA season.
ExiledInIllinois Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 This crap is almost as fake as an NBA season. I see, you are Consumer Reports employee. This stuff is like moth to a flame for Toyota fan boyz/apologists like you and JA. Don't worry Crayonz, you have a one second delay when you are driving your spiffy new Prius. Just think how much fun this glitch can be if you are driving through your beloved Canada.

Dude I could give a crap about Toyota. Last February, I outlined the entire rest of the NBA season with 100% accuracy including Kevin Garnett's fake injury. I know a fake when I see one. This thing is a fake.

You drive a Prius... I suppose it is better than one of those gay Honda Fits. Just remember Crayonz, you have an extra second to stop... Just don't freak out when you are cruising through Guelph ghost-riding-the-whip with your fly new Prius. Ahhh... That is a sight... Crayonz ghost-riding-the-whip through Guelph with his new Prius. Take Marshawn with you.

A couple of years ago, Consumer Reports admitted that they hadn't tested Toyota models for a number of years, and gave them good reviews on "faith." In the '80's, they slammed the US - manufactured Golf for having an illogical dashboard assembly - despite the fact that it was identical to German and Belgian - manufactured Golfs. The US plant installed part was sourced and shipped to the US from W. Germany - it was what is known in the business as a CKD part (old British nomenclature after WWII - 'completely knocked down'). That nomenclature still exists - everybody in the auto mfg. biz knows what it means. When the Jetta was built in the US, CR complained that the rear seat cushions were hard and unyielding, "unlike" the European production models. Fact is, the cushions were produced by a US supplier, and the (exact same) product was shipped to the European assembly plants.
Dante Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Why should Toyota care about making good cars any more? Quality doesn't seem to matter. Car industry seems to have a safety net. Things go for a ****? No worries. US government will bale you out.

My Prius always had that problem. It's in the traction control system. Solution was to replace the **** Goodrich stock tires with some all-weather Michelins.

"Eskimos (that is Inuit for our Canadian friends like Crayonz) don't buy refrigators." And if they do, you just know they are going to be a pain in the butt and critique the crap out it.

Car industry seems to have a safety net. Things go for a ****? No worries. US government will bale you out. Dude, the Toyota and other Japanese car makers have always had a safety net... It is called keeping the Yen weak. Let that Yen slip to about 50 or less to the dollar... And the Japanese will scream like little girls. Right now it is about 100 to 1 dollar... Exactly where the Japnanese like it. Honda Raises Profit Forecast on Weaker Yen "Feb. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Honda Motor Co., Japan's second- largest carmaker, raised its full-year profit forecast as it cut spending on research and the yen strengthened less against the dollar than the company predicted. Honda expects net income of 265 billion yen ($2.9 billion) in the year ending March 31, compared with an earlier forecast of 155 billion yen, the Tokyo-based company said in a statement today. Third-quarter profit totaled 135 billion yen, exceeding analyst estimates of 80 billion yen. The carmaker raised its profit forecast for the third time this fiscal year, saying the yen may average 92 against the dollar for the year ending March 31, compared with an earlier forecast of 90 yen. Honda also plans 45 billion yen in combined additional cuts to capital and research spending, it said in a statement today..." "...A weaker yen against the dollar raises the repatriated value of Honda's sales in the U.S. The Japanese currency has averaged 90 against the dollar so far in the fiscal second half that began Oct. 1, compared with the company's previous forecast of 85 yen..."
ExiledInIllinois Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 I thought you were talking about razor whipping the Guelph with Marshawn. What are you talking about? The thread is about Toyota and the Prius... And how the Japanese auto industry have been getting unfair advantages for many decades now. Get with the program Crayonz!
KD in CA Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Ya gotta love when the thread starter has >50% of all the posts in the thread. I thought that only happened in Steely Dan threads or when the Senator was slobbering over Mike Leach. Anyone else get the feeling that reading about a foreign automaker's troubles is the eqivalent of porn for EII?
stuckincincy Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 My Prius always had that problem. It's in the traction control system. Solution was to replace the **** Goodrich stock tires with some all-weather Michelins. Good plan - gives you a fighting chance against Prius' over-arching (by necessity, in that vehicle's case) system. Not for Toyotas' Prius rationale, but there are several builds that restrict a total disablement of TCS/Stability (ESC) systems. The basis is in fear of litigation. IIRC, 2012 marks the US mandate for across-the-board ESC. Bon apetite!
ExiledInIllinois Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Yeah, what's your point? That you are an effing dolt! Amazing that you of all people put up with what even in your own word called "a problem." I have a nice job for you in the Corps, you would fit right in! I take the BF Goodrich's were OEM tires? If not, my sincerest apologies... Yet you are still a dolt. The problem is in the software... Your Michelins may have helped... But you are still not fixing the problem. Why didn't you go right to Toyota with the problem? Again, were the BF Goodrich's OEM? If not, I can see if somebody was reluctant with a company like Toyota... They would smell blood in the water if somebody was having problems and had aftermarket tires on the ride. What I mean is that they would no doubt throw it on the car owner... Sweep in under the rug. Now I can see Toyota's or any other maker's point if you had NOT the required size of t tire or wheel... But, if that size requirement wa met... You should have no problems with the BRAKING SYSTEM.
